Every time I go shoot my bow the neighbor kid comes to the treeline between our yards and watches. He never speaks a word even when I talk to him. This evening he showed up again. This time I went got the selfbow I built for my youngest son and told him to come over. Wasn't long and he was sticking my old worn out deer pretty good! His mom and dad are divorced and he's always home alone.... I'd bet money he will be waiting for the next session.

:clapper:
Good job!
Good on you Corey! I had the same thing happen a few years back when my next door neighbor deployed . They moved away two years ago, but that boy now has archery in his heart.
Great job! :clapper: :clapper:
Excellent!
Excellent! And time well spent for both of you.
You did A REAL GOOD THING!
Terry
That boy is ready to learn, because he showed interest on his own. To me that's the biggest hurdle mentoring kids. That smile makes it worth it. If we can help donate please let us know.
Teaching kids how to shoot, that show interest, is also fun.
Well done... That's a big deal right there
You were presented with a great opportunity and you did good. Congratulations
Good on you, I am sure it means a lot to that young man. :clapper:
Great going. Another future archer to keep the tradition alive.
Make sure to clear it with his mom. Great work and keep it up. That boy needs you.
Mike
Good for BOTH of you :clapper:
Its a good thing,,,,,but only if his parents dont freak out over it. Better talk to them to make sure its ok.
That's awesome! We need a whole lot more of that!
Nick
:clapper:
I'd say your season has been way more than successful Corey. That young man looks as though he just found the pot of gold. Sad to hear about his family troubles though. Keep up the excellent work.
His smile says it all.
But I would bet the smile on your face is even bigger.
Fantastic!
Well done. You may have just started a lifelong passion. Pretty cool.
Awesome! I'm betting your actions will have a positive effect on this young man, far beyond what you are able to see now. :clapper:
Made my day. Thanks
Your story made something in my eye water a bit. You see I have grandsons who are the victims of a divorce. It hurts kids so much. We used to shoot bows together but they are nearly grown now and don't live near me any more. I miss them so much. Please encourage that little chap as much as you can. He will never forget you.
Very cool
Great job on your part, soooo many wonderful things to be enjoyed by what you did. It's people like you who take a little time to help someone else find purpose and meaning. Your a big man and your small part will be a big solution to our countries problems. May God bless you richly bro!
That's just awesome! I'll bet that kid will never forget that. You brought some joy to his life which he might not have gotten otherwise. Great job!
Good on you!! So many kids need mentors in their lives these days.
Awesome! Glad you are there for him.
Love that little guys smile!
chris <><
Well done! The magic of arrow flight is a true magnet. As said above, this will reach beyond archery.
:clapper: :clapper:
I was that little boy ounce, my neighbor took me under his wing and started the fire of bowhunting in me!
We need more gentlemen like Rollie and yourself, you are making a differance
Well done :clapper:

That is heart warming.
Also makes me think of all the other little boys and girls out there like that.
What a beautiful Christmas story. That little guy needs all the encouragement you can give. I hope his mother will allow him to spend time at your archery range. Keep up the good work and have a very blessed Christmas!
Bernie
Looks good on ya!
I applaud you.....hopefully, another new archer in the making. We need more of these youngsters, the future to our endeavors!!!
Exceptional! Good on you. That deer target is one of my nemesis, he does better than I do on it
You have a chance there to make a friend for life, and become a superhero all at the same time. Good for you, and him.
Corey, I just promoted you to Champion status with this post, well done sir :clapper: :clapper: :goldtooth:
And x2 what David Mitchell stated, divorce is a Plague that destroy more than the husband and wife.
My late father grew up without a father. Somehow he connected with an archery club when he was in his teens. I'm convinced it made a huge difference for him. He got me started in turn.
You are doing a wonderful thing here.
Good for you, and good for him. Hope his mother let's him continue to shoot with you. This has got to make you feel good inside. :archer2:
Put him in the Christmas Eve Maddog Pup longbow drawing.
Great job man! He will remember you til his last day. You are truly a good neighbor. :clapper: :clapper:

Made my day that's for sure, good for you. I bet that boy remembers the neighbor who taught him to shoot a bow for a very long time
We can talk about protecting the environment, land conservation, politics, land grabs, public land preservation, and hunting rights protection until were blue in the face....But, nothing makes as much of an impact and difference as introducing a child to the outdoors through bowhunting. With it can come all the love and stewardship for the environment.

Sweet
If a kid will get of the game long enough to learn something new it is a good thing.
That one may not even have a game though.
You should be proud to have gotten him interested. Even if he does not come back, that one day and the smile on his face says that he had a good time.
You made a difference that day. Thanks for being a a good person and taking the time. We need more of them.
Good for you Corey..

Great job!
That's awesome what you do but that boy looks to young to be home alone I hope that's not the case. His smile tells it all!
Good on you! Sometimes kids just know they need a role model when theirs has walked out on them. Don't ask me how I know. It was brave of him too, you know, to put himself out there for you to help him. Hope you can continue to mentor him.
 :clapper:
Good job
Nicely done! Great job.
Awwwwwww, well done and Merry Christmas to you and him.
That's awesome! Glad your willing to help! I was 9 (23 years ago) when I got my first bow. I was telling some co workers the other day it was a life changing event for me!

Yes sir! I agree 100% with you. I appreciate the kind words folks but I didn't do it for "me". I did it because I enjoy getting my kids involved and this little guy seemed to be ready.
I'm certain he will be waiting for me to shoot again. I will talk to his dad next time I see him and ask if it's ok if he has his own bow and arrows.
God Bless
True definition of a real man and a true Archer right there... Tip of the hat to you brother....your are a fine example..keep him going!!

Not much I can add on top of what's said above.
Trad gang is one of the best places on earth because of people like you.
I hadn't shot at home since that day. Been hunting out of town. This morning I went out and was shooting. Look who shows up :) :) :)
He talked a bunch more today. He was in my bow/hunting shop and asked tons of questions.

What a great service you're doing for that young man. There are a lot of kids in the world that need the kind of guidance you're giving that kid. Well done and thank you for passing it on.
Can't imagine a better gift. Well done, sir.
A kid needs someone to look up to.
