Just purchased some 5 1/2 inch banana fletch, was wondering what everyone's thoughts were regarding there use on hunting arrows. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I use them on a lot of my selfbow arrows which are woods and I do bare shaft them the best I can for being woodies but the bananas do complete the package very nice,,,,,,another bow I have likes 1916's so I put big bananas on those too except I cut off about 1" from the back of the fletch to give them that medieval look and shorten the fletch so it doesn't interfere with an arrow holder but they fly great!
I think they would be great, lots of stability in 3 fletch (16.5"), crazy stability in a 4 fletch configuration (22"!). They should also be a little quieter of a design than the common shield cut. I would get some if I found a good deal on them without hesitation.
Ive used them a lot on aluminums and woods in 3 fletch configuration. They stabilize quick, and fly nice, unless there is any side wind, then like all fletching they are effected...but I think a bit more of a "sail" then other shorter lower profile shapes.
Yeah I think the height of the feather has more to do with how fast it slows down that total feather length. It depends on your goals though, If I was expecting a longer shot with the possibility of wind I would not want so much fletching, maybe just 4"x3 parabolic or something like that.
Kind of gets down to splitting hairs though.
use em
I have the 5 1/2 chopper and I added a small plate at the bottom to shorten the height just a bit and shorten the length to about 5 1/4". I really like them - they shoot great, look really cool, and are quiet.
That is all I have been using for the last 10 years (http://buffsblackwidow.com/images/bloodcatus.JPG)
I use them in a two fletch configuration. They work great!
I've been using banana fletch for more than 20 years now. It is my favorite style of fletch. The 5 1/2" maxi fletch will straighten an arrow out quickly. I splice a lot of feathers and use a feather burner all the time. The last few years I've gradually gone down to about a 4 1/2" banana with no loss in stability. I think I've gained a little on longer shots with it.
Thanks everyone for the feedback! Greatly appreciated!

When I read the title of this thread, I thought of you Buff. How is it going?
Nick still talks about hunting down at your place. Hard to believe that was 5 years ago.
Dnovo I thought about getting a 4 1/2 inch feather chopper made and reduce the height a little bit. What is the height of your 4 1/2 banana fletch if you don't mind me asking?
Life is good
I'm with you sure dont seem like 5 years
Awesome pic Buff!!!! The blood spatter on the cactus is really cool! Great to see you posting here again!
Homey.
I just measured my banana fletch and they are 4 5/8" long and 5/8" high
Thanks dnovo!
