Title: Hello from ON, Canada!
Post by: PLC613 on December 02, 2016, 09:46:00 AM
Hello Gents,

Thought I'd introduce myself. Call me Phil.

I'm an IT consultant by day and bowhunter at heart. I'll be upfront, I do have a longbow I love to shoot but my passion lies with lever bows. I bought my first Oneida when my Dad and I visited a newly opened dealer in our home town back in '93. We looked at each other seconds after walking in and we needed not say anything- we both knew we were walking out with one of these! We didn't know what to think so we bought just one. We shared it back and forth defaulting to our recurves and the Jennings split T now and then but the passion for these bows grew strongest in me and to this day, that bow is my goto weapon of choice heading into the woods each year.

Hopefully that doesn't cross some sort of line here...FWIW I'm in the process of "de-modernizing" things a bit in building my next arrow which will be heavy aluminum tipped with a 2-blade cut on contact head. Case in point, I'm here today because a friend on ArcheryTalk was trying to refer me to an article on here about building heavy aluminum arrows with high FoC. There article is nowhere to be found so if anyone has input on that I'd really like to read up. I've always built my own arrows and always will. It's one of the things I love most about archery.

Welcome. If you haven't, make sure you read the "Off topic/newbie" post at the top of this page.

Interests discussed here range from trad bowhunting to trad bowhunting.

Welcome from northern Quebec.

Small world - my granddaughter lives near Ottawa and her mother just told me on the telephone that she will be playing hockey in Cornwall on Sunday.

I don't know where you can find that information on building heavy aluminum arrows, I've been in the bush a lot and may have missed it because I can't remember it.

I hunt big game with cedar arrows but still shoot aluminum often for practice, stump shooting, and small game.

2419s with points and inserts coming up to about 275 grains for a good F.O.C. are my favorite for the 75 # longbow I shoot most often, and a little lighter for 2317s that I shoot out of my 71 # longbow.

They quit making 2419s so the ones I still have are precious to me - hopefully I have enough to last me until I can't shoot that bow comfortably anymore.

Years ago I would put one aluminum shaft inside another - a 2213 inside of a 2512 shot from my 93 lb. bow. I called those 2525s and the total weight was a little over 1,000 grains. It was fun!

Getting older and weaker has made my choice of equipment easier though, LOL!

Yeah, it is a small world! I'm actually from Quebec(Gatineau). Use to moose hunt with my dad in La Tuque.

I gotta keep things somewhat lean since I only shoot 55#. 600gr is my goal. FWIW doesn't sound like you've gotten that old  ;)  ...2525s, that's priceless! Must of packed on heck of a punch.

Listening to the subtle calling of the longbow within your heart, may be luring you to the dawn of the light.

The light may lead you within the eye of the storm and may find yourself having to close your eyes to find passage out of the dark.

Remain cautious as the fear of contagion is warranted.

WELCOME!

As far as shooting your longbow, you would most likely be amazed at what you can achieve with it.

And help in overcoming plateaus or stumbling blocks is right here on Trad Gang - seriously!

Even us "ole" simple (no parts to go wrong) stick bow shooters get reminders here once in a while.

And by the way, my mother was born in LaTuque, LOL!
