Gang,
I did a lot of searching and didnt come up with exactly what I was after so I thought I would ask the peanut gallery. Also before anybody says it I have tried the fletch tape and wraps and they are just not my favorite even though I can see why some really love it.
What do y'all use or recommend that would work with carbon shafts that have been painted with Rust Ole-um? I think I have used duco and fletch tite platinum with varying results. I was wondering about super glue but haven't tried them. Surface prep is a little problematic in that I don't want to mess up all the work I do when painting and cresting.
Any ideas or experiences would be great

superglue works on just about anything, on certain paints it might make the glue a little white and hazy looking. I was going to suggest fletch tape with a drop of super glue on each end. I have had good luck with duco on my painted shafts.
Duco on painted arrows and I never had a problem.
I too use SuperGlue for fletching on spray paint of all types including RustOleum. Never had an issue of any sort but as with most things YMMV.
I have used the same paint. I crested then applied a coat of water based polycrillic. I use Saunders NPV glue. I have a "test" arrow that was fletched 4 years ago. Every once in awhile I throw it around the patio, shoot it then pull on those feathers. They are still stuck fast as day I fletched it. I did the test arrow to insure I had a good combo as I made arrows for a friend and if the feathers came off he would be on me.
Duco DID NOT work with Rustoleum for me. It made the paint bubble up and adhesion to the shaft was weak. Crown dip with fletchlac and glue with fletchtite for best result in my opinion.
What sort of super glue does everyone recommend?
I used to work in a bow shop (BowTech dealership) for years as a side job throughout college and I've fletched mine, and my friends arrows now for years. ...15 years later, I haven't found a glue I like better than Gorilla Super Glue (blue lid). I've used it on wraps, bare shafts, and dipped shafts with excellent results.
I am like you in that I am part of the small minority that dislikes fletch tape. I've yet to have a known glue failure with this stuff after 100's of arrows. Prep correctly, and this stuff works fantastic.
I found duco a no-go on Rustoleum too.

JCook,
What sort of prep routine do you use? I think we might be on the same page.

The blue cap Gorilla super glue does work for me on wraps. My only real complaint with any of the super glues is the residue is a pain to clean off a shaft when refletching.
I did want to mention an issue I recently had with the Rustolem 2X paints. I sprayed some woods white. When they dried, next day, I sprayed red over parts of the white. The red orange peeled right away. I contacted Rustolem but only answer was the paint was dry but not cured. Well it can take 30 days to cure according to the can instructions. For this application I am going back to Krylon paints.
I've always used loctite gel superglue. Because it's not runny.
I use alcohol to clean the shaft, and the feather base. I do not touch the shaft with bare fingers again once I've cleaned it.
you guys are right super glue is a pain to get off but usually when it gets to that point I just strip the cresting and cap and just start over.
I will give the blue gorilla glue a try

Oops sorry for the bad info guys. I checked the shafts I put Duco on it I forgot that I put a couple layers of spray on pollycyrllic over the paint, I also let them cure for about 2 weeks before I fletched them. They are holding strong though.

Same here.
This thread reminds me.....I've got some arrows to make! :bigsmyl:
I use the gorilla super glue now on most of my arrows. I still let them sit in the clamps for 30 minutes. Seems to work better then fletch tite platinum
I have to ask, what's wrong with Fletch Tape? I recently started crown and cresting my arrows and I certainly don't want my feathers falling off.
I really like fletch tape, but - I don't dip or wrap my arrows. And I have found the Bohning tape to be much superior to Bearpaw tape, for what it's worth.
If I were you I would go ahead and get a clear wrap, three Rivers sells them. It protects your resting and the fletching sticks to it really well

There is nothing wrong with fletchtape and lots of guys really like it. I have used it and it works fine I just have problems getting it on the fletch then getting the backing off. Its also a one and done sort of thing so I you dont get the feather where you want it on the first stab with your clamp it is stuck.
but again, most guys really love it so probably best to form your own opinion.
