Just wondering if you were to get one recurve which one would you get . I know both are great bows .has any body shot both .any big difference . Thanks.
Schafer for sure! Robertson is a good bow but nothing like the Schafer
Dale Dye medicine point, best grip and great looking .
I have owned several of each both are fine bows, I still have two Robertson's, they tend to be lighter mass weight and in my experience put the arrow closer to your hand.
JMHO
I haven't shot both so I may be biased. My Schafer is by far the smoothest drawing bow I have owned period. And I've went thru quite a few. The grip takes a little getting used to, but when you get it figured out it is very repeatable. They aren't the fastest on the market but no slouch either. I really like everything about them. Except the price! LOL
Both excellent bows. I've shot and owned both. Robertson is a bit quicker IMO.
I have 2 Robertson's that will never leave the family! I ordered them both. I have had a used Tip and it was a superb Bow. I don't think you could go wrong with either. Ever since I received my Stalker Coyote FXT LB a few years ago my other Bows don't see a lot of action.
I struggled with that question for a long time. I bought both. They are both great bows. You can't go wrong with either.
Like others here I have owned both and agree they are both excellent bows. The Robertson is physically lighter and perhaps slightly quicker. The Schafers are heaver, which I like, and are as smooth as butter. If I had to choose between the two my personal choice would be a Schafer but everyone has different reasons for liking a bow so only you can decide for yourself.
The checkered grip on the Schafers is unbelievable, yet the Robertson grip is also right up there. I wonder what checkering would feel like on a Robertson? Probably incredible.
One nice thing about the Fatal Styks is the riser and limbs are all interchangeable. You can even put Raven Styk longbow limbs on there if you can find them. (I have a pair BTW).
I really really like my Schafer 3 piece longbow! It has a slightly narrower riser than the recurve...
Shoot both and then decide!
Ive owned several Robertsons. Cant go wrong with either. I had all my Robertsons checkered. Made them even better.
Keith, did Dave checker your Robertsons?
That seems like a pretty sweet set up!
Both shoot excellent. I do agree the Robertsons are the more lithe lively feeling bow. Purchased new, I feel the Schafer is a better value. The finish work/attention to build is a step above. Used it's a more even split, and the Robertsons are often a little more affordable. The grips are both fantastic. The Schafer grip is a little slimmer and flatter. The Robertson grip more full and rounded, really conforms to shape of your hand. Schafer grip favors a more loose open grip style of shooting. My vote is a Schafer...or why not a Blacktail!!
Robertson Wolfer....
or Fatal Styk..
or Tribal Styk...
Owned and shot both. Two great bows but in the end I favor the Robertson. Faster and fits my hand better.
X2
I have owned several Robertson's and over a dozen Schafers, you can't go wrong with either them. Both bowyers have a trial/test bow program, call Dave/Beth and Dick, get a test bow from both of them, and then decide for yourself, if you can.
You know life is good when you are trying to choose between two bows of this caliber. ;)

:biglaugh: Ain't that the truth :biglaugh:
Have owned both, both great bows. Shot the Bison in my avatar with a Robertson. I no longer own one but have 5 Schafers on the rack if that tells you anything.
I own both, love them both.
BUT...I am the guy who prefers a heavier, meaty bow. When drawing and having to hold, which I often do while waiting for an animal to step out from behind brush...the extra mass helps to keep me stable. But I am confident going into battle with either.
Yes. Dave has done all of my checkering.
Only you know the answer. Schafer is top quality but a very heavy, big riser and shorter limbs. Robertson is mid size, normal mass weight riser and limbs a little narrower. I have owned both and prefer the Robertson Fatal Styke. Nice grip and a little faster IMO. Robertson is also less expensive and shorter lead time. Cant go wrong with either.
