I am about to buy a used longbow made by Chek-mate.
The bow is 70 inches tall, with a 50# draw weight. (I'm almost 6 foot 2.)
What kind of shootability will a bow have with this kind of length (70")?
What should I expect?
PS -- I am buying it because it is a great deal, and because I have only owned one other traditional bow, a 42# TD, 64#.
Very stable & forgiving
I have a 70" 21st Century longbow. It is smooth and fast. You will enjoy it!
I have a 70" 21st cen. that is 60# @ 28". I kill stuff with it and I have also shot my highest ever 3d scores with it as well.

What is the length marked on the bow...just because a bow has an overall length of 70 inches does not mean it is a 70 inch bow...what is the serial number on the bow?

Let's just say that you'd fit right in on the fields of Agincourt.
Pictures when you bring it home!

Thanks for writing. Much appreciated. I am nervous about buying one so long. But we'll see how long it really is.
Yeah, I think I read a book on Agincourt -- by John Keegan, a british historian of war. Pretty interesting.
I'll pick up the bow tomorrow at lunchtime. I'm excited.
Cheers!
Hey Torsten, first off congrats on getting your new bow.The old owners of Chek-mate were good friends of mine and I,ve owned or shot just about every bow theyève made.i still have a Golden hawk 68 in.Longbow of theirs. If its got Yew limbs your getting a real Gem.They actually made 3 styles of ASL longbows, the only differences were the handle configurations, later on they got into different styles of RD longbows. If your first bow was a recurve you,ll find a lot of differences in how you shot longbows.Check out the Howard Hill posts for a wealth of information on shooting your new bow.I was born and raised in Burnaby .If you stop in at Boorman Archery in New West say Hi to Ron and his son Bill for me .Bill is a wealth of knowledge on Trad archery. Best of luck.
I'm guessing it's a Golden Hawk. If so, expect a smooth and quiet bow with a bit of hand shock, pretty much like any other bow of similar design.
I have a 68 inch recurve and it is the fastest bow I own!
Got the Chek-mate bow. Strung, it is a 68. Seller said 70 but he's s busy guy, probably didn't measure.
Let me post a few pics.
Thanks for the comments and replies. I will respond soon. Bill at Boorman has been the single most helpful person I've met, super guy.
