Hunting during the rut is a blast. Hard to hear all the cannon blasts and continue to bowhunt. Well this young fella came by on a trail I had relocated my stand for a 20 yard shot. I had seen several deer use this trail earlier this year. My shot was partially deflected by a pine bough and proved to be a stomach hit. No blood was found and after a extensive grid search hours later. Two hats and I gave up. We talked to others hunting the same property. I asked for them to keep a lookout for buzzards and ravens. Two hours later one of the other hunters showed up with my deer. Now that's luck. Here we are:

I'm giving my ACS a good workout this year. this is my fourth deer with it. 57lb. @29.5, 64 inch. Using gold tip 300's with a single bevel Grizzly for a total arrow weight of 555gr.
He had traveled over 250 yards. Drank a huge amount of water and died in a scrub field. I'm going to try to can some of this buck. :goldtooth:
Well done and seems you're on quite a roll, Jeff.Congrats on the buck.
Glad you got the recovery .

Sometimes the finished job requires the enlistment of others...congrats!
Will welcome a bit of good fortune, myself, this afternoon.
Good deal Jeff. Every time I hit a limb my arrow goes into the ground. They say it is better to be lucky than good.
Jack
Very noble of the other hunter to bring you your deer.
Last season, my uncle shot a nice buck which we couldn't find after he crossed a small river and swamp,
Long story short, our neighbor/ hunter claimed he shot the buck.
Congratulations on your buck!!
Congratulations Jeff. Glad you recovered him.
Glad you found him Jeff.
I am glad you recovered the deer. Congrats
Every once in a while, it's better to be lucky than good!
Glad it all worked out and your deer was recovered. There is not much worse in the world of bowhunting than making an ad hit and losing a critter!

Oops, double post!

Nice story and deer. How did you know the deer drank a huge amount of water? Was the cavity full?
Well done Jeff! Glad you found him !

Thanks everyone. Yes it is nice to be lucky. I owe that young fella. It was a very nice gesture. We hear a lot of bad things in this world. It's nice to see some good.
Chad - When I field dressed him the water just poured out like a I hit a water line.
Jeff
Congrats on your buck.......
