I would appreciate recommendation for a good GPS type app for iPhone. What I would like to get out of it is 1) not get lost, 2) be able to save specific locations (stand locations, good squirrel woods, etc.), and possibly 3) save specific routes for getting in/out of woods.
I grew up hunting in big river swamps in S. Alabama, where we would go in using a compass and navigate from memory. Back then it took some skill to find your way back to the truck. I am now getting back into hunting - teaching my young son about outdoors. I am amazed at the useful tools (iPhone map of local national forest, GPS apps, etc.).
Just looking for what works. The nearby national forest (the smallest NF in the USA) seems to have a decent cell phone signal. I would prefer to use iPhone instead of a GPS.
Thanks!
I like onx hunt cost $ though
Another vote for OnXHunt.
Thanks!
GAIA. $20 and you don't need cell service.
I have onX and Gaia, prolly use the onX more simply because it has property lines ,if your not worried about wondering on property your not suppose to be on .I prolly would go with Gaia.with Gaia you can down load your map and run out of service and still use it,I think Gaia marks your location more precisely If your not worried about property line I would go with the Gaia cheaper then the onX also.
GAIA
OnXmaps is good but GAIA does everything I need it to do and then some for a lot less $$$$
OMG, I really am a dinosaur walking (limping actually). GPS/I-Phone are two terms I never thought I'd live to see in a post on a trad site, lol!
Gaia works great onX crashes continually and if you need boundaries get the free huntstand app it allows you to have boundaries with owner names that combined with Gaia and you'll have it all covered.
