Guys and Gals,
Just thought I would throw out a quick poll to get an idea on how many deer yall harvest per year. I thought it might be fun for everyone to see the results. Let just keep it to deer, whitetail or muledeer, because they are the most cosmopolitan species. I know there will be regional differences based on population numbers and permit availability so not anything scientific or anything. Just two question. How many antlered (buck) do you harvest during an average year? How many antlerless (doe/fawn) so you harvest during an average year?
Feel free to comment with any additional information or opinions after answering...

2 bucks 4 does

:biglaugh: Looks like a bunch of us really suck at this hunting thing. :dunno:
-
usually get a doe but don't shoot many bucks , however small bucks get a pass so that makes it harder
-
In a good year one buck and one doe that equals the amount of venison that the five of us in the family eat.
-
3 bucks,6 does
-
2 & 2 average. Once in a while I will get a 3rd doe. Sometimes 1 buck and 3 does. Just depends on where I am hunting and what is available in that area.
I need at least 3 deer to keep me from having to buy beef in the store!

I don't mean to suck my thumb, but here in colorado I have not drawn a deer license for two years!
I do get to hunt out of state and I average 1.5 deer per year.
Sincerely
Thumb sucker Joe

Usually 2 does, and .334 bucks. I'm pretty picky on bucks and get one about every 3 years anymore....
-
In AZ you get to hunt Archery buck only, and if you are successful, the odds here for a successful bow hunter is some where around 14%. so one deer buck only per year.
-
i shoot around 5 does and 1 buck per year
-
I average a deer a year. 70% does and 30 % bucks. I keep a simple list of deer i've killed.
Kinda hard to get an accurate pole result from me.
Some years I dont' kill any and then i've had years i'll shoot 2.
-
Really interesting results so far. Or at least i think they are. I have a lot of years with 0's in both columns but on an average hear I shoot 1 doe.
-
Don't let RC or Crispin in the pole.... they will skew the results !

I did the math, in the last 13 years I've been hunting I've shot .153846 deer per year. Yep, I've only shot two. Missed twice in that time period also. Just hard to hunt deer on public land in my area of Illinois. I can't wait to move.

About one every 8 years, bucks only.
-
I get about a half a buck a year :scared: (1 every 2 years) and 1 or 2 does a year, got 3 a couple of times.

2 bucks 7 does.RC

If all goes well, 1 a year and it's usually a doe. I have had 2 deer years but not often.

I haven't killed a deer in 2 years. So far I've sat over 60 hours this year and only seen one doe. I've done my home work and scouted thousands of acres. I've picked out 5 locations for this year and set up for various winds and only hunt accordingly. Oak bottoms, funnels, and pinch points. Just really really hard to kill a deer when 99 percent of pics are all at night and you get people poaching on the wmas with rifles ( this happened last Tuesday) and joy riding around on Atv's ( last Sunday) .
Not making excuses but dang it sure makes it tough!!!
-
I drove my boat in last Sunday about 2 miles. As far as I could go. Then walked about another 1.5 miles to a pinch point I scouted last spring. Got set up and 30 min later a whole family came rolling by following the boundary fence. (About a half mile off the atv trail which if for handicapped individuals only) . About and hour later they came right back by. I called the local game warden but to my understanding he never came out. But you bet you butt if I drove an atv in there to hunt they would be waiting for me at my truck when I left!!!

That is extremely discouraging. We know how difficult hunting deer with traditional equipment is under the best circumstances. It was for reasons like this that I purchased my own property(30acres) ten years ago. It was a sacrifice and took a lot of planning but I'm so glad I did it. Not to mention the tremendous investment it has turned out to be. Hang in there my friend and make the most of your circumstances.

I'm about one deer per every three years. Only one deer tag a year here, if you draw! Now with that said if I wasn't picky I could kill every year. In the last two years I have let around 25 differnt bucks walk and held out for a longer season(tag soup).
-
That's what I call willpower!!!
-
Mine is a little over two right now, but the average is going down since we don't have doe tags here any longer.
-
I usually get 1-2 deer a year with the longbow.
-
Some states have huge deer populations/good access while others not so much. Unless you happen to own your hunting property or have friends that do, around here 'tag soup' is the norm for the average bow or gun hunter. I'd guess the average success rate would be in the area of one deer per hunter per every 4 years or so regardless of the weapon used. The quality of deer hunting (both sightings and harvests) is comparatively crappy. But at least we have trees, lol.
