Folks, I know hunting season is going on hot & heavy and Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day is gonna get here faster than we all think.
With that said, the 2017 PRE SPRING ARROW FLING will be held February 24, 25 & 26, 2017. It will again be held at Tannehill Historical State Park in McCalla, AL. www.tannehill.org (http://www.tannehill.org)
Compton Traditional Bowhunters will again be joining the American Traditional Archer in hosting this event.
This year will certainly be a little different. There will be 40 total 3D targets for everyone to shoot and have a great time. The MAIN DIFFERENCE will be that everyone will have an OPTIONAL 1ST ROUND CHOICE of competing in their class. The key word here is OPTIONAL!. If you still like the "Just For Fun" format, you don't have to compete. There'll be a special card for those that want to make their 1st round a competitive round. There will be beautiful "American Traditional Archer" awards given out on Sunday, 1st, 2nd & 3rd place for each class.
There will be an all day fee, single weekend rate as well as a weekend family rate. These rates entitle you to shoot as many rounds as possible for the rate you choose.
I'm lining up several bows from some outstanding bow companies as well as Bowyers, also other outstanding prizes to raffle off the Camp Jack Wright, Boy Scout Camp.
Tannehill State Park has approximately 300 improver camping spots, unlimited primitive camping and three bath houses in the Park.
I'll soon be adding my Vendors list to this thread as well as photos and other information.

I can't wait for this year. I had a blast last year and met a lot of new people. This is one of my favorite shoots for the year.
-
Awesome event!!! Great shoot for us northerners.
-
David, hopefully you & Tracey can make it down here for this one.
Terry Harris
-
Go ahead and put BCY Bowstring Material on the list of vendors--barring no disasters I'll be there.
-
Will do Chad.
Terry Harris
-
What are the classes going to be?
-
Same as the Howard Hill Classic. Men's and Women's Longbow, Recurve & Selfbow. Junior, Youth, Cub & Senior.
Terry Harris
-
Here's hoping everyone has a great & safe Thanksgiving.
Terry Harris

Arrow restrictions?

Alright folks, Thanksgiving, Christmas & now it's 2017 and I hope everyone had an outstanding Christmas & New Year.
Hunting season will be over down south before ya know it and then cabin fever will set in.
BOOM, it'll be time for the PRE SPRING ARROW FLING!!!
Already gearing up for some great Vendors.
Speaking of Vendors, Teresa Asbell will be adding some TREMENDOUS items to go with the 1st Place Awards for those who choose to compete this year.
Looking forward to adding to this post between now and when this event arrives.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Terry Harris
Sorry JR, I didn't see your post. If you're competing on the optional 1st round, no minimum weight on your arrows, any arrows used for longbow or recurve, wooden or cane for self bow.
-
Looking forward to it already Terry! Hope my work doesn't interfere
-
I really hope to get to this event.
-
Thanks John, and I hope you can make it Michael.
Terry Harris
-
great shoot to start the season folks i'll be there for Friday if nothing goes south on me...got work the weekend :(
-
Mr Terry you have to change the dates as I will be working that weekend :(
-
LOL, wish I could.
BTW, I spoke with Dave Jarvis w/ Compton Traditional Bowhunters and he's also adding to the 1st place winners awards.
Dave told me that each of the 1st place winners will receive a "OneYear" Compton Traditional Bowhunters Membership. He also added if that individual is already a member, something else would be given.
WOW, these winners are really making out at this years Pre Spring Arrow Fling.

I'm planning on attending this year for the first time. If its anything like the other gatherings I've experienced it'll be well worth the trip! I'll be there late morning friday if traffic goes well and will be tent camping if the weather isn't to harsh. Any others on here have experience tent camping during this event or going to this year? Will the camp grounds be far from the main rendezvous?
-
I'd love to be there but I'll be chasing tarpon in Belize. In a kayak!!!!!Have fun fellas
-
Shane, there is almost unlimited camping, and you can even camp very near the area where everything is happening: such as Vendors, trade blanket, registration area, food, etc.
I feel you'll have a great time here.
Terry Harris
-
Corey, say it aint so   were gonna miss you not being there, not having Royalty there is going to be different.
-
Terry,
If you don't mind me posting a video from last years to show all the folk what they'll be missing if they don't attend!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXDGf623MK4
-
Thank you for the reply Terry! Sounds very nice and convenient. I'm getting more excited each day! I'm very easily pleased and just being able to attend will be a blast to me. Everything else will be a major bonus! It still amazes me how nice the folks are that I meet at these events and how you feel so comfortable with them in such a short period of time. Usually by target six or seven they might as well be family and the ribbing already starts!
-
Ward clan planning to come. Now retired, back in East Texas.

BILL WARD, I'm EXCITED you all are coming my friend. it'll make our weekend for certain.

Folks, over these past several years, many outstanding Vendors & Bowyers have donated bows and other items I raffled off to give the proceeds to the local Boy Scout Camp. There will also be several thousand dollars worth of Bows and other items this year as well.
Big Jim Bow Co., Bear Archery Products, Northern Mist Longbows, Teresa & Fred Asbell, 3Rivers Archery, St. Joe River Bows, Academy Sports, Bass Pro Shop, Mark's Outdoors as well as many, many others have been very generous to this event.
Terry Harris
-
Folks, as I wrote earlier in the Thread, Teresa Asbell wanted to do something extra special for the Men & Women 1st Place Winners.
Here's the total package for each of the Men's Winners.
Mens: A Pathfinder Jacket, GFA quiver, Haversack 49.95, Knife/Sheath, Wool Covered Journal, GFA Books & DVD. Al of these in this OUTSTANDING Packages totals well over $400.00.
That is PER WINNER Folks.
The Women's Package will be different for those Winners and I'll post the package as soon as Ms Teresa emails them to me.
Terry Harris
-
NOW, let's not forget those others that have contributed so generously for raising money for the Boy Scout Camp.
Our friends Steve Turay "Northern Mist Longbows", Mike Rash "Legends Bows", Big Jim "Big Jim's Bow Co.", Neil Byce "Bear Archery Products", Jonathan Karch "3Rivers Archery", Tracey Belowski "St.Joe River Bows", Teresa Asbell, Academy Sports, Bass Pro Shops, Mark's Outdoors as well as all the Vendors that donate while at this event.
So far, with their help, I've been able to donate over $40,000.00 to this Camp.
Terry Harris
-
That is great Terry. I remember last year there was tables full of outstanding prizes.
-
Folks, here is the package Teresa Asbell has put together for the Women's Winners that compete at this year's 2017 Pre Spring Arrow Fling.
One of her beautiful Women's Poncho's (One Size Fits All), A Wool Scarf, GFA Quiver, Haversack, Wool Covered Journal, Knife/Sheath, Some G.Fred's Books and a DVD. Again, each package is worth well over $400.00 each.
I have no doubt that those that haven't attended the Pre Spring shoot because in the past, it's been a "Non-Competitive Event", YOU MIGHT WANT TO GIVE THIS EVENT A TRY!!!
Terry Harris
Thank you so much Teresa Asbell.

Well I just rented the last available cabin at the park. Me and my little family will be there Friday and Saturday. Really looking forward to all the vendors, don't get to see much traditional gear in Alabama. What time does the shooting start if your just shooting for fun? Cost per round?
-
Hi Julian, The range is open at 7 am each morning and shuts down at 5 pm on Fri. & Sat. and shuts down at 12 noon on Sunday (which means last shooter can go out at those times the range shuts down).
Fun and the optional competition if one likes, is the same fee. If a person shoots just for one day, it's $20.00 for all the shooting you can do in a day. A single weekend rate is $35 for all weekend long and for a family (immediate family only), it's $60 up to a family of four and $10 per person over that. Cubs, 7 and under shoot for free if you can factor those into it. Again, weekend rates are for as many rounds you can get in all weekend long. There will be 40 3D targets set up for your enjoyment.
-
Terry,
kind of jumping the gun here, but do you know if you'll have the same number of targets sat up in June at the Howard Hill?
-
Nope, this past HH Classic, I had 25 3D targets. This event will have 40 3D targets.
ALSO, this year's HH Classic will have 30 3D targets!!!
