I leave to hook up with Joe "Whip" Lasch tomorrow morning. Then we head to southeast Iowa for 9 days of hunting with Jeff Holchin. We've been monitoring some trail cameras that show some unbelievable bucks. It's real nice to know what is out there so I won't be drawing on a trophy eastern 8 point this year. This is the first time I'll be back in the woods after not hunting in the last 4 years. With all my surgery (two backs, total knee and shoulder) I'm feeling great even if I can't hear...tippit
Best of luck and have a good time......get one of your knives dirty........
Best of luck Jeff, get a big one sir! Travel safe too!
Lots of deer moving around and buck sightings have really increased the last 5 or 6 days.
Your hitting it just about right although you may be dealing with some high temps :knothead:
Go get um Doc :archer:
Good luck Jeff! Did a few DIY hunts out there until leases went up so high it was unaffordable. That and the high cost of license fees made me turn my back on that state.
Good luck Jeff, great to see you will be back in the woods! Looking forward to the stories from this hunt.
David
Best of luck to both of you.
You will have a good time hunting with two fellow PBS'ers. I have hunted with them both.
Holchin needs to write a book entitled "How to go on as many hunting trips as possible and still be married" He is the master
Every time Joe post pictures, I think that retired dog.
Sitting here at the hospital thinking another day closer to retirement. Good luck, I am sure Holchin will text me
Here in SE Iowa things have really heated up the last few days. Weather is warm but bucks are chasing does. Last Sunday I know of 4 bucks to die by arrow, with the largest being green scored at 163 and one of my close friends seen 4 bucks that night and let a 140 inch 3 year old buck walk by at 10 yards holding out for a bigger/older deer. A week and a half ago bucks were responding good to rattling.
Good luck and hunt safe!
Good luck to you three!!!! Hope to see some awesome hero pics from your adventure.
Happy travels and hunting!! :archer2:
It's been hot here in Monroe County Iowa. Have not seen much chasing or movement here on the farm since last weekend. And from what I see of the weather report, there's no relief in sight. The mornings will be your best shot. Best of luck!
The other night I went to my chair tree cluster. It just requires a light butt pad to make it perfect for a right hand shot to three trails. I had a number of deer come by me. The run trail that the thermal was catching was the only one that I needed a left hand bow, but in 45 years I had never seen a deer on that trail in the evening. Wouldn't you just know. Right about sunset a super buck with his head down low to get his antlers through the woody brush comes in and stops twenty yards facing straight at me and directly down the thermal while I was swatting at the most aggressive mosquito that I have ever had the pleasure. It would have been a real freak situation if that would have turned into a shot anyway, but it was nice to be that close to one that huge. Its got me thinking about warming that heavy Schulz.
Good luck, Jeff..!!
Good luck to two of my favorite people on this earth
You guys have a great spot. Be patient...
No Iowa for me till late season this year.
Doc--you will appreciate what I did today. I'm a very happy man! 13#~~I messed up on two much bigger males.

Best of luck Jeff. Looking forward to your tale of the hunt. Sitting on 5 points for Iowa myself but it's just too much fun heading to Missouri to spend some quality time with Kenny McKenzie. I'll be there in three weeks.
Steve, spending a little quality time on the St. Mary's? Beautiful fish.
Good luck to everyone.
Jeff
Steve O,
You did it. Nice fat Atlantic!! My Atlantic salmon season started off with a Big Bang...caught a 37" 18# Silver Hen fresh from the ocean with sea lice still on her. Took me a good 20 minutes to land her because the regs on The Mirimachi river changed due to the salmon stock being down to using only single hook flies with the barb pinched down. It was the first morning on about the 20th cast. Man I thought this year was going to be great. Then not another other bump or take with two guys fishing all day for 5 days. Kinda like bow hunting :) Poor picture as my fishing buddy couldn't see the image on my phone.

Here we go! Off to the Land Of Giants!
By the time you read this post you'll be riding in my truck! :bigsmyl:
Good luck guys! My truck is pointed toward Iowa this morning as well. I wonder if those big Iowa bucks know how many PBSers are headed their way with bad intentions. :bigsmyl:
Good Luck!!!
Hope the bucks are moving for ya.
Good luck out there guys. I think your timing will be about perfect.
Best of luck Jeff, Joe and Jeff.
I am in my way to Whitetail Mecca, but had to stop by in Ohio to scout a little and hang a few stands in preparation for the upcoming PBS membership hunt that I am hosting there in a few weeks. I love being in the Midwest in November! Hunting tonight with a "grizzled" PBSer that you all might know..
Best of luck guys. I had the opportunity to be there but I was supposed to be in a wedding out west. Well that wedding fell through! Damn the luck! I've got the points I need for Iowa so maybe next year!
I envy you guys catching those salmon. That looks like a blast! Best of luck out there guys.
Good luck guys! ! Will need a full report of course , with pics !!
I had a good one get by me this morning. He was following a doe 20 yds. behind her. Kind of hard to explain but I would have had to hold my bow perfectly vertical in order to shoot between the "V" of two trees and not bump my lower limb out of the back of my stand. He was broadside at about 26-27 yds. but I just didn't feel positive on it so I held off. He didn't have a clue I was there so maybe I'll get another chance later. What a great buck though. Basic 5x5 plus some stickers. A really chocolate colored rack with a lot of character. Some of his tines weren't round but kind of triangular shaped if you know what I mean. A beautiful, fully mature Iowa stud. The thing dreams and memories are made of! bw
Good Luck guys! Joe - try and get Jeff's head in the trophy pics, no more fish stories.
Way cool experience Barry. I just got home from IA, but hunted this morning and saw 6 different bucks and i only hunted an hour and a half. Saw three nice ones last night.
Good luck to you guys. I hope you have a good hunt.
We're having a great hunt. First day was awesome with one of us picking great morning and evening stands and seeing up to 15 bucks (hard to keep count sometimes) and passing up some dandies because of a silly vow he had made years ago. He said it was his best day of deer hunting ever! Another of us rattled and grunted in a big buck that first morning but mmmmisssssed him.....
I just saw my tenth buck of the day and am wondering why oh why did I ever move away from the Midwest????? The bucks are very active and responding well to rattling and grunting, and seem to be just days away from a full-out rut frenzy .
Good luck, guys!!!
Bisch
I finished the day yesterday with 15 buck sightings, my personal best
Already up to 3 this am and sun just coming up
Can't remember how to add a pic?
:campfire:
choot, gol darn it, CHOOT!!!!!!
I won't name names (starts with a J) but one of us tried to hunt without his bow one morning......
Only saw 8 bucks so far today, looking for a better spot for the afternoon
Good luck!
F-Manny
good luck, fellas. I expect photos will be along in short order!
Sounds like you guys are having a great hunt. Good luck. Would love to see some pics of some Iowa giants on the ground!!

If you sent 4 PBS'rs to Iowa in early November, buck tags in hand, on one of the finest whitetail properties I've ever seen, odds generally would not be good for the deer.
But as I sit in the predawn light with a setting full moon at my back on the final morning of our hunt all tags are still intact. Who would have thunk it?
We still have a day, so it's not over until the fat lady sings, but the end is staring us in the face. Yet it has easily been the highlight of my whitetail bowhunting career.
Successful days were measured in terms of number of bucks seen per day. If you didn't hit double digits it was a bad day , and the good days far outnumbered the bad. My personal high was a 17 buck day. I didn't keep track of the number of bucks well within bow range that were passed up, many of which would have found themselves wearing a tag had we been hunting anywhere else. And multiple oh so close encounters with jaw dropping bucks were had by all. This is as good as it gets when it comes to deer hunting.
We all could have shot bucks we would have been happy with but chose to savor this while waiting on the buck of our dreams. So far, we still wait. We all had shots at good deer and for one reason or another, we each blew it. The excuses vary, but to a man, there are no regrets other than the fact that as I sit here a great hunt with great friends is nearing the end.
But it's not over quite yet. Maybe, just maybe, one of us can finish this off in fine style yet today. Either way, I'll drive home fully satisfied.
Sounds like a great hunt to me Joe! Good luck in the home stretch!

OH NO !!! You failed us? Ha. Talk to you soon. Keep the spirits up! bw
