Title: Success with wool
Post by: BAK on October 28, 2016, 03:09:00 PM
I've taken two nice deer so far this year wearing one of Asbells "Evening stand green" plaid wool jackets.  It has worked great for warm and cool scenarios.  Not effective if it's windy, but great otherwise.

Anyone else?

Had a small 6 come by 2 weeks ago at about 10 yards. He was down wind. Looked right at me and then went about his business. I was wearing the Timber Ghost jacket. He got a pass as I had shot a 4 pt a few days earlier.
Last December shot the biggest archery buck I have taken he was about 6 yards, I was in a stand only about 8 ft high. Same Timber Ghost jacket.

Wore my timber ghost vest and green wool pants for the first time this season yesterday. I had the biggest ten pointer I've seen within range. Unfortunately he walked right behind my stand preventing an opportunity, but I'm convinced being still and comfortable are more important than camo patterns.

Been touching distance to more does & fawns than I can remember in the past few years that I've been using Asbell wool. I use the Evening Stand Brown and Timber Ghost patterns.

Shot a smallish 7 point at 8 yards last fall wearing ESB, and a coyote last winter at about 20 yards using the TG. Both hunting from the ground.

Turkeys as well, though the last couple years has been pretty dry on gobblers here, I've had hens & jakes pecking the ground at my boots, unaware.

It's so warm here in Oklahoma that I have gone out in camo pants and shirt a time or two.  I bet I'm not the only one who feels like deer will more likely see me in camo after having so much success with wool.

Love my asbell wool! I have a few different patterns. Really like the Hedgeapple Hideaway. After wearing wool It now seems to me that commercial camo patterns all end up looking like a big dark blob from even just  several yards away.

I had a buck behind my stand for 2hrs last week, I had on evening stand grey I think it is. but many times deer looked right at me cause I moved and then look away I'm very confident in the asbell wool.

I like her wool shirts as well.  But I have a brand new one. It the sleeves are too short. I may have to get her to make me one with little longer sleeves in a medium.
