Title: Deep hook string hand and cold weather
Post by: Tedd on October 26, 2016, 08:16:00 AM
I know most "experts" will tell you a deep hook is best. I usually use a deep hook also. I find as I get older when my hand is cold that it's hard to release properly. And it doesn't take much. Just a cool evening is enough.  I have been messing with a little more open hand. Pretty much the same depth hook. I used to shoot that way. Anyone else have problems in the cold. Anyone a propenent of a more open string hand?

I just release naturally. So far there have been no particular problems. My cold weather trouble is just in drawing the bow.

I just recently went to putting the string in the first joint, boy,  is it easier drawing vs. string on the first pad.

I have a hand muffler that I got from Cabela's that I keep a hand warmer in .
I just keep my hands in it on my lap and if it's time to shoot , I slide my hands out and I'm good to go .

After some playing around i think keeping my hard warm might be a better way to go.

What do you mean by "a little more open hand"?

I use a big hook....and what works for me in cold weather is to wear thin gloves and use a muff with handwarmer packs inside.

I've tried thick gloves and it just feels too bulky at anchor.

I shoot 3-under with a tab. I'm with the handwarmer in a muff or jacket pocket. If its REALLY cold, I wear a thin UnderArmor glove and the tab over it and still use the pocket/muff with warmer. Have never had any problem releasing. My only problem (for a number of years now) has been finding something to shoot    :(
