Man what a hunt, still hunting down a creekbottom littered with blow downs from hurricane Matthew a week prior. The deer already had a path beat down around them. This is the first time I've been in there all year. As I made my way around a root pack, I caught some movement about 40 or so yards away, it was antlers. The buck had put his nose back to the ground scent checking the many trails that cross the bottom. I slid down and over as much as I could, and the buck kept coming. At 12 steps he lifted his head and looked straight at me. He was wanting to come right where I was, and he wasn't sure what was in his way. He quickly decided to just go around the other way. He turned and headed to my right towards the tree top. I drew my 52# Kota Prarie Fire longbow to full draw and sent the grizzly tipped, Selfnocked POC right into the vitals. He was quartering away and the arrow took him through the last rib and lodged into the off side shoulder. The buck made a dash around the tree top and out of sight. I heard him stop, and go down. In the end he made it roughly 60-70 yards in an arc around the tree and was down. I could hardly believe what had just happened, and unlike some deer I've taken, the closer I got the bigger he got, I'm still stoked.

Great story! Great Buck! I would have been shaking like a leaf!
Thanks alot guys. It was an adventure for sure. I had major surgery on my back about 2.5 months prior. I has so much adrenaline going, I drug him about 350 yards, and loaded him in my truck by myself. After about 5 minutes in the truck, I began to feel the results of doing so. Lucky for me I was able to call a friend of mine to help me take care of the meat.I was spent to say the least. A great hunt, great friends, and great memories.
Well done, congratulations on a wonderful deer :clapper:

Congrats on a great deer! And really nice photographs.
I noticed your equipment. I have always put my broadheads into the hood with nock end uncovered. It seems like it might be a little dangerous, but I assume you have a reason- just curious why you carry arrows that way?
Regards, Gary
Beautiful SC buck. I see your broadheads are in the quiver hood. those are judos and blunts reversed.
Fantastic!!!

Yes sir all broadheads are covered, judos are in reverse. I like to do a little stump shooting once the hunts over and I'm on the hike back to the truck.
