Got my 2015 buck back. I shot him at 5 yards in October. Unfortunately I was unable to recover the deer as he crossed a fence into a farm I don't have permission to hunt and the landowners don't allow hunting. I did however manage to get permission to shed hunt and I found the buck in February of this year. With 5 days left in our Archery season here in Ohio I was still able to legally tag my buck. I was saddened by the loss of such a Monarch but delighted to have a talented taxidermist to restore the memory.

Thank goodness I have a good taxidermist. I didn't give him much to work with. I knew where the buck was heading but it took several visits with the landowners to gain permission to look for him as well as some shed hunting. I was sick for months about it and the day that I walked up on him I got a little teary eyed. I have such respect for these animals. I hated to see him go out that way but was thankful the chapter of our story together was finally complete.
Great story and great buck. I am glad you found him.
I guess if I can say anything guys don't ever give up looking.. I knew how he was hit and even with no blood my gut told me he was fatally hit. I looked for hours which turned into days and weeks looking for him and all I could come up with was one thicket across a fence. I just kept my head and worked on the landowners over a period of time and eventually gained their trust. In the end it was worth it but the months leading up to holding him in my hands was a sick feeling.
Great buck,I bet you were sick.Heck even makes me sick knowing you could not look for your deer.
Great Buck! My hats off to you for how you stuck with it. Well done.
Very good buck!
Glad you were finally able to retrieve your buck. He's a nice one.
That's a great ending to a sad story. Glad you found him.
Most excellent respect for the deer.
Also, a very nice buck.
Well done...
Great buck and a beautiful mount. Who did you have do the mount?
Glad you found him! I had one several years ago that I found 9 days after the shot. It really sucked to lose the meat, and to this day I don't know how he went as far as he did????
Great looking mount!

Thank you for all the comments guys. It was a learning lesson in many was for me as a Bowhunter. I'm very thankful to have him on the wall and not still laying out in the field.
Congrats again Aaron. I'm glad you were able to find him.
Very nice.
Hard to understand how they wouldent let ya look for what ya knew was there....better late than never
I am happy you were able to find closure on a magnificent buck.
That's a great buck. Your taxidermist did a really good job!
Way to stick it out. It would have made me sick as well knowing where he was and not being able to go find him.
Great job all around brother I remembered the disgusted phone call but you went with your gut instinct and kept after him...way to close the journey on a great buck!!

You would have to know the landowners I guess.. Very picky and I didn't want to burn my bridge. I had to tread lightly and get them to trust me. Hopefully it never happens again but if it would I think a simple phone call and he would let me cross the fence.
