Title: Does 75 (.670) Carbon Express Heritage sound about right for a 45# longbow?
Post by: forestdweller on October 16, 2016, 08:14:00 PM
Hey guys I'm looking to buy some shaft's to tune to my longbow. I've tried .500 spine beman arrows left at 31" with a 145 grain point and even they are too stiff.

Does a 75 Carbon Express Heritage shaft (.670 spine) sound like it would bareshaft straight at around 29.5 or 29" long with a 125 or 145 grain point?

I draw 27 1/2" so about 44# on the fingers. The bow is not cut to center.

Also to you guys shooting these shaft's how well are they holding up?

Thanks in advance I appreciate it!

I would think the 150 (.588 spine???) May be closer. But I differ to the wiser members. If you're planning on hunting I'd think you would end up with a heavier arrow using the 150's.

I've used 31" goldtip 15-35's (those are 600's i think) with a 75 or 100 gr brass insert and 125 gr point out of my sluggish 45#-ish selfbow. I think those ended up at 450 grains or so.

Your close to the 75, but I bet you could get the 90's to work also. My specs are 26.5" dl and 45lbs with arrows cut to 28.5 and I can shoot about any point weight with the 90's and get really good arrow flight,,,,145gr seems perfect though with 4" feathers. Not sure how they look bare shafting,,no interest in it. Order from bigjim and ask him. Heritage is a great arrow  ;)

With the point weight you have picked out the 75 is going to be your best pick for your set up. I can't comment on the durability of the lower spines Heritage or the new ones but the old models were some of the best shafts out there.

I'm shooting them now out of my 42 - 44# bows with 125gr for 3-D and stumping. I run .500 spine with 175gr for hunting.

I think they will work great for you.

You can make a lot of things work with a 45 pound bow. I have a few different arrow builds that work with my bow, about the same specs as yours, just a little more bow weight and a little less draw length, cut 1/8" shy of center with BCY-X string.

30.5" 400 spine with 250g points

28.5" 500 spine with 250g points

27.5" 500 spine with 300g points all fly great out of my bow.

many different builds will be possible depending on what you want in terms of length, weight, and FoC. Of course the most important aspect is clean flight.

I ended up going with the .670 spine arrows. I could get away with a .600 spine arrow but I'd have to raise my brace height up considerably so I'd lose quite a bit of powerstroke and the draw would not be as smooth.

I'm shooting for a 9gpp arrow as I like a nice flat shooting arrow that also has some weight. I feel like 8-9gpp is a good compromise for hunting, target, and just all around general shooting.
