Well, we've got a pretty bow thread, we've had fast & slow bow threads, we've had metal risered & selfbow threads.
I think it's about time we started a thread that reveres all those plain-Jane, battered, ugly old bows that we just can't part with. The bow that you shoot great, but take out in the dark, in a case & don't let your friends see!
We've all got 'em & I'm sure we all love 'em to bits. Why don't we celebrate their bedraggled beauty with a few pics!
Post up your uggo's here!.....
My "Modern Trad bow" riser is 23" W&W painted flat black, with dark Metallic grey limbs, has a atletic wrapped grip. BUT those are Winex 46# and they spit out my 2114s.
This one has seen better times.

I don't there is such a thing as a bad lQQking longbow.. :D
Leonard Lee Rue?
Killdeer :)
I had the same thought Killy - I'd like to hear the story behing that one! I'm no expert, but I wouldn't give up on that one either - I'm thinking it just needs to be put back together.
Leonard Lee Rue III the famous wildlife photographer? I always loved to look at his great photos in Petersens Hunting mag. Do tell.
QuoteI wouldn't give up on that one either - I'm thinking it just needs to be put back together.
You have a point Whip. It probably could be fixed since it broke in the handle. I bet Eric Krewson could get her shootin again.
Funny you should ask! My ugliest is also my most fun and best shooter. Kinda like a mongrel pup is more fun than a purebred, right?

I think it was about 15 or so years ago. Mr Rue came here to central Nebraska to see the Sandhill Crane migration for the first time. A friend of mine gave him photo tours while he was here. That's when I had him sign the bow.
I'm sure it could be repaired. The joint has came loose and the walnut piece broke. I did put it back together but after a few shots I heard it "snap" in the same place and it's been hanging on the wall ever since.
Other than that I don't know much about the bow. It was given to me at least 30 years ago. It's a light weight bow, probably 35lbs. or so.

I don't know Shovelbuck - this is supposed to be a thread about ugly bows. I really like yours! Beautiful piece of osage, and with a story to go with it. I think it's really cool and needs another chance at life
I guess that just goes to show......."there are no ugly bows" :D
Well I have a Hill bow that just has Black glass on the Back and Brown on the Belly....
I would'nt call it Ugly, Thats why I named it "Just Passable"
Actualy I got the Name from an Ex Sweetie in TX....
I told her she was beautiful and she replied that she was'nt beautiful butt "Just Passable"
So I wrote and told her I named a Bow after her....She thought that was funny....
Here is my worst looking bow , a 66 in. Jaguar that belonged to my father. The bow cannot be shot but I keep it for sentimental reasons. Some day I would like to find a similar Jaguar that is in good condition.

Linc, I wouldn't call that bow ugly. I find it interesting. What's the story behind it? Have any more pics?

Thanks Linc, just read through the thread. Great job on that one, but I still don't think it belongs on the worst looking bow thread.
Thanks, If it isn't ugly then it isn't far from it.LOL.I have another one in the works. A little more plain looking than that one.
