Hello, I'm new to traditional bow shooting. Can anyone tell me how I know when to replace my bow string?
String will fray meaning some fibers are breaking. I change mine yearly as I shoot often. Keeping it waxed helps.
A sure way is if there are any broken or frayed strands. If it's really old, dry rot may be a factor. A new one isn't that expensive, and there are many materials available. I would replace it if I wasn't sure.
Black Widow recommends a year or 10'000 (I think that was the number) shots, which ever comes first.
Thanks everyone. I will get it changed.
Buy the DVD, "how to make a great bowstring". They are easy to make and you can tinker with different strings. Then you will be like me and have so many laying around that you will never have to concern yourself with such things.
But to answer your question, if it starts to fray....replace it.
