Several years ago I posted an ad here wanting to buy a Kodiak Hunter. Jack Shanks responded and I purchased this bow from him.
I decided a few weeks ago to leave the customs at home and use this Grayling Bear as my main bow for the year.
Our season opened this morning and I was on top of our mountain in my stand at 7AM. At 7:30 I spotted a deer heading my way but out of range. He made a turn and came to the far end of where I'm comfortable, 27 yards.
I picked a spot, drew, hit anchor and released. The deer took a step as I watched the arrow fly. The shot was a little back but I knew it was OK. The buck took off and I heard it crash a few seconds later.
I waited for few minutes and went down to find my arrow.

I slowly followed the trail and a few minutes later he was mine.

I've been trying to kill a deer with a vintage bow for the past 4 years and got serious about this year. POC arrows and Zwickey Eskimos are good stuff. This spike represents a lot of work and I couldn't be happier with it.

Nice job! Good shooting. I have 2 of my biggest bucks ever taken on the wall both with trad gear my first is a nice 8 and he fell using an old Ben Pearson colt 45lbs. Those old bows still have it in them!

Thanks guys! It's going back out tomorrow and Monday.
It's really a very good bow, decent cast with a heavy arrow and plenty quiet. Bear really knew what they were doing with the design. I wish Bear would start making them again!
Congratulations !

Nice shot on what looks to be tasty venison.
He's been tasty so far :bigsmyl:
There are so many acorns here the deer have been hard to locate. I checked another stand out the ridge when I finished my morning hunt Saturday. It's in a huge white oak that is dropping acorns. I'm going to hunt it this week, its only a matter of time before they hit it ;)
