Opening day is tomorrow I have a 7 hour drive from my house can't wait to get there. See what's changed in the last eight years and what hasn't. Looking forward to some time alone in the woods to get my sanity back from this crazy year. My plan is to scout tonight hunt in the morning, scout and stalk, still hunt during the day and blind hunt in the evening.

And you are less than an hour south of me.
Good luck Chad! I'll be following along with envy. Hopefully I'll draw a tag for the whitetail motherland next year!
Well the morning was fun seen 3-4 does and had a light rain for most of the morning. Sat until 10:30 then decided to scout out some new spots since I lost my honey hole. Drove up and down the river bottom I have access through because of the IA DNR. Iowa is a state that does it right it takes tag money and buys more hunting land for American use and maintains it. Found some spots on the map I wanted to walk on and pre hunt for the rut. Here was the first one....

First one was a total bust
Off to the next spot looked awesome 2 hours of walking and back to the truck.
I was wiped after that not allot of sleep up early, back to the campground for a shower and a bite.

Got a shower in felt better went to my last spot wet again so I decided to set up by the field edge out of the water. Headed back to MI late but at least can hunt tonight and tomorrow before back to work. The misqetos where insane you would kick up clouds of them. Also allot of American Giant Misqetos hatched which is rare and takes a big rain or flood up to size of a quarter and super aggressive. I got what I wanted to get done accomplished kind of get some good spots got it out of the rut. Although I didn't get to walk them all I did find all my access points. That's it till November for me for Iowa.

My wife had a large Iowa buck by her last night, a couple of inconvenient cedars kept her from getting a shot. We don't have the big striped skeeters here, yet. We have the little head standers, that come straight in with no dilly dallying. Today my arms are tired from waving at skeeters. I was asked, "See any?" I said, "thousands." "Get any?" "about 40 is all." "They were bad by me too." Off he went, but he instantly knew that I was referring to our dominant predator species and we were the prey. I read that only female mosquitoes bite, I do not know if I have ever seen a male mosquito.
Man wish you all would have got it! The males drink nectar and juices.
