Is the 68  Bear Super Kodiak black beauty paint or stain?

To the best of my knowledge, the 1968 Black Beauty was actually "black" Ebony wood.

Only the '67½  is all phenolic.  The '68, '69, and current version are part phenolic and Bolivian Rosewood, I believe.

I've owned several 67 1/2 & 68s. The risers are phenolic material, a little heavier but that's what I like about them.  I've yet to see the newly built phenolic SK.

The '68 is black phenolic w/rosewood caps. The Black Beauty is the 67.5. That is all phenolic.

What Bear is selling now as the Black Beauty is actually a replica of the '68 Super Kodiak. The original black beauty was the 1967 1/2...It has an all phenolic riser with thin maple accent stripes. The '68...was phenolic and rosewood separated by an accent stripe. Very similar to what they are making today
