Title: I can't get rid of nock high. Help...
Post by: RedShaft on September 17, 2016, 08:29:00 PM
Trying to get my dasd bareshafts flying. Well we got the left and right lookin decent. For the life of me I can't get rid of nock high. Bear grizzly. I even shot it and get nock high.

I had the nock point as low as level and high as 9/16,
Tried two nocks
Adjusted brace up and down
Even changed up rest material

I can't figure it out. Can't get rid of it.

With your draw hand, your elbow might be too high and if you are shooting split finger it can cause you to put pressure down on the arrow.

Have you shot them with feathers.

When bare shafting, focus on the point impacts.  Chasing nock high is a needless exercise in futility.  JMO.

Sounds like your point impacts are already good, time to shoot some broadheads!

You can accomplish the same thing as bare shafting with broadhead arrows as well, shoot broadhead arrows against fletched field point arrows.  Except instead of the bare shafts being the "tell" now the broadhead arrows are.

If you have not tried it add some point weight, helped me with one setup I was struggling with.

No long ago I struggled with the same thing. Nothing I tried got rid of it until someone suggested the mighty .....TOOTHPICK! Yup that cured it for me. If you have the bear rug rest on the shelf break off a piece of toothpick as long as the shelf is wide and slide it under the rug right above the deepest part of the grip. So simple yet, for me anyway, so effective. Hope it's the cure you've been looking for

He don't shoot much weight.  45@28 but he only draws around 26 ish
600 goldtips 200 gr points I think arrows are near 28.5(don't quote me on that as I cut little buy little as we tunned)
Yes fletched arrows fly good

arrows are flying good. Just nock high. Very frustrating
Thanks for the suggestions!

Ya I didn't want an elevated rest either. Toothpick is a nice compromise. You don't notice it and for me it cured the problem.

Im also having the same issue. Tried adding a nock under. shooting 3 under helped but I don't want to shoot 3 under. Gonna try the toothpick and building out the strike plate. My shafts are showing weak anyway.

You also mentioned "as high as 9/16". Several of my bows like 5/8" nock height. FWIW.

I never really worried about nock high bareshaft with a traditional bow.I feel it comes from the tiller of the bow, they don't have the adjustability of an ILF bow.I worry more about the arrows impact and the feathers will straighten out alittle nock high when bareshafting.I like to fletch up a couple of arrows to shoot with my bareshafts.

Tried the toothpick first and worked instantly. It actually started showing nock low. I simply raised the nock point and im dead on. Thanks for the great tip. I also built out my strike plate to maximum in order to get my high FOC arrows to not show weak. now Im getting perfect straight bareshaft flight. I was just about to give up. Thanks.  (http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j6/nightkid696/DSC09935_zpshk4h7w49.jpg) (http://s76.photobucket.com/user/nightkid696/media/DSC09935_zpshk4h7w49.jpg.html)

Now the only problem is when I shoot fletched, the quills graze my hand. Gonna super glue the tips of quills and see if that helps.

9/16" is not a high nock point.  Try 5/8" or even 3/4" and I bet your problem will be solved.  I always shoot 5/8" plus.

I am also thinking tiller issue, being that it isn't really adjustable here, I say you're close enough, put some feathers on and go shoot.
