Title: Minimum draw weight to hunt with a 3 blade broadhead
Post by: Tradcat on September 17, 2016, 06:50:00 PM
Ok gang.... I know a lot of factors come into play, but for a mild R/D longbow at my draw length (47 lbs), would you feel comfortable hunting for hogs with a 3 blade head ? Please give me your thoughts. Thanks

yep. I have killed a couple decent sized hogs with a 45lb montana with a 500 grain total weight arrow (woodsman broadhead) Or on one occasion a 100 grain insert and a 100 grain montec.

Pass throughs. Get close be accurate. Eat well.

I should also note that I live in Hawaii. We do not have boars with massive shields on their shoulders as I have seen from some of the mainland pictures.

Most hogs aren't that big! I'd think youd be fine.

I'm carrying zwickey deltas this year, but I'm gonna have one grizzly in case a big hog comes by.

I shoot 49#, and stick with 2 blade heads. The 3 blade won't hurt you on smaller pigs, but you may have penetration issues on big shielded boars, esp if you happen to hit them a tad high!
