I've been doing some scouting for squirrel hunting and noticed that there were hardly any hickory nuts being produced. I went on to UKY Forestry website and this is what they had to say:

Looks like both the hickories and white oaks got hit by a late freeze. Hopefully, the red oaks will be producing. I also noticed that a few persimmon trees that have always been good producers don't have much on them either.
I just came in from nearly 3 hours of stand trimming and scouting. Found bountiful persimmons, red oaks and white oaks. A surprisingly diverse good crop this year. But, while I love to squirrel hunt, I missed the August weeks this year so I don't know what the hickories look like here.
One of my degrees is Forestry so I have an "elevated" interest in trees.
Bowwild, I'm in Harrison Co, where are you?
Bob,
I'm in Anderson.
Same here in southern Indiana. Very few hickory, but seeing decent pockets of acorns and decent persimmons.
Squirrel hunted several times before bow season started. I killed out of oaks and pig nuts. There were very few scaly bark hickory nuts. Hunted mostly WMAs in the central KY area.
