The new owners of my local archery shop appraoched me a while back asking if I thought a Traditional League would get enough participation to make it work. I talked to several of my local friends, and everyone seemed to like the idea. So, the shop decided to give it a go. Tonight was the first night of the Double G Archery Traditional League. To say it was a success would be an understatement! We had 15 shooters come out, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
We shot 3 arrows at 10 NFAA animal targets, at varying distances, that ranged in size from a prairie dog to a huge black bear. We then shot a second round the same, for a total of 60 arrows. Here is a pic of the setup for tonight:

The scoring was 10-8-5-0, and these targets have very small 10 rings. We keep score, but the league is non-competitve, so the only prize is bragging rights till next week.
Here are few random pics of all the fun being had by all:

All in all, it was a great time, and I can't wait for next Thursday to get here so we can do it again!!!
Bisch
Looks like a pile of fun
Awesomeness!
That's great bisch way to keep the traditional archery going in your area looks like a great time and club!
As usual, Good stuff Bisch...
Looks like a great time. Thanks for sharing the pics. :archer2:
Looks like you are sharing your never ending enthusiasm for everything archery. I wish I lived closer so I could come by and hang with you guys. I hope these fellows know that they have an unlimited archery resource at their disposal. :)
:archer2:
Looks like a nice evening. Perhaps a few of the compound guys will at least give trad a try. When I used to shoot 3d at some of the compound clubs where I was the only trad shooter, a lot of the other guys were very interested in shooting my gear. A couple of them even bought trad bows. A trad event at a primarily compound venue is not necessarily a problem as your pictures indicate. Good for you! I hope the league expands. Who knows? Bisch may transform from the bowhunter to the trad archery instructor.
Not sure what makes me more jealous - that you've got a traditional league, or that you've got a local archery shop! You're living the Dream.
One of my favorite archery things I've ever done was the indoor trad 3d league at Jake's in Utah. But alas, I'm not in Utah anymore. Looks like fun.
Looks like a blast.
Bisch,
Where was this? Love to attend if close by
I had the pleasure of sharing a deer camp in Tx with Bisch and a nicer fellow you will not meet, this is right up his alley as he was ALWAYS shooting his bow in camp. Looks like a great time, with air conditioning, enjoy.

Thanks for the kind words, Gery! And yes, I do like to shoot my bow!

Looks like a ton of fun! I dont know anyone around me that shoots trad...wish I had some guys to shoot with. I would love to learn from more experienced guys.
Looks like a great time. Happy for ya, buddy! I might hafta talk to our local shop owner and see if might be possible to do something similar around here....
That's a fine turn out Bisch, sounds like the shop owner is enthusiastic about generating interest and perhaps his inventory will prove useful to you and your friends. Are these fine folks Trad Gangers?
That's a great start to your league. One of the local archery clubs has had a winter trad league for at least twenty years, though calling it a "league" is being pretty generous. No scores are kept, just show up, pay your fee and shoot as much or as little as you want. More of a weekly gathering of the local trad shooters, but I'd miss it dearly if it ever ended. It carries us through the first three months of the year. Enjoy the fellowship.
Hey! I made it into one of the pictures! Life goal #345 accomplished. :readit:
I also got to meet Bisch and watch him clean house. It's a wonder we don't see even more dead animal pictures from him, cause he's murderously accurate (at least to 20).
Way to go Bisch!
