Here In Central Pa I have only seen one white oak with acorns...Hoping there is a good crop of them this year. Anyone else seeing any in your neck of the woods?
Dropping like rain here.
No white oaks here in sw mo. Seen a few bur oak acorns near one of my stands but I'm not sure if the deer even eat those. Anyone know? Always wanted a nice patch or white oak acorns though.
Been checking the white oaks in my area (State College) and it's not looking good. I can see a few on the trees with binoculars but they seem pretty sparse.
Chief. If you have found only one, then you have found Nirvana. Much better than having them all over the forest. I would put a stand near that tree immediately. I was hunting last night right next to a huge white oak and was checking it out for 'corns. Saw exactly one. They're not around here this year. Heard they only really produce every other year. Don't know about the validity of that though.
I'll be hunting with a bud around the DuBois, PA area and the reds are everywhere. Better than nothing but definitely not as good as the whites. Good luck.
Last year in southern zone NY we had a banner crop. More acorns on the ground them I ever remember in 40 years of hunting. They were all over the place. Hardly saw any deer that year. The deer were totally of any regular patterns.
I haven't seen 'em down here either, at least not on my place. Some of the Red Oak trees have a lot, but others are very sparse. The deer eat them but the turkeys LOVE them.
I found a small stand around 3500 feet thats dropping and its tore up. I immediately found a spot and got the leaves kicked away and shooting lanes trimmed. The spot is between two big pines right in the middle of the oaks. Gonna be some real close quarters shots. I don't know if its the only white oaks dropping or if they are just earlier than all the others this year. Green hickory nuts have been coming down for a few weeks already but I never see many deer on those.
Last year the reds dropped like crazy but no whites. I have a good spot on a ridge with a huge stand of oaks. I haven't been out there in a couple weeks so I'm not sure whats going on. It dropped reds up there last year but not much deer activity on them.
Very spotty here. Been out a lot chasing squirrel. There aren't any hickory here this year a few beech and white oaks. I have found most of the acorns up high where the sun hits first it the morning. We had a late frost and I think it took care of the majority.
Good crop of whites here in MD this year. Deer have been hitting them hard.
I actually haven't seen much in the way of acorns around here at all.

Not seeing hardly any yet....looking mighty slim here in Va..
Seeing decent pockets this year, but nothing like 2014. Very few hickory nuts this year. Like someone else said, we had a late frost and that zapped a lot.
Went on a scouting trip today and found quite a few spotty whites then found a little 5 acre pocket that has the mother load. Lots of good rubs and several fresh scrapes there too. Too bad season is still a week away. Chomping at the bit!
Lots of em in Central Arkansas
I see a huge crop of acorns on the oak trees that I spiked this past Spring.
Found a load of them today on some public land. Looks like it's not hunted right now either. Guess where I will be next weekend?
Haven't been hunting yet but my yard is full of white oak acorns.
On Long Island we are loaded with both white and red.
Lots of em in Northeast Arkansas too.
Despite gypsy moths we have a good number here in CT
Went for a scouting walk yesterday on gamelands. No Sunday hunting here on GL. I got within 30 yards of a doe due to her noise from her eating and browsing and the falling of acorns popping the ground. I timed my steps with the acorns hitting the forest floor. Our oaks here are loaded and are now dumping their crop.
If the rain holds off, I am headed back there today. So far, it's pouring here off and on.
I couldn't take a step in the woods yesterday without one almost hitting me on the head. I was squirrel hunting yesterday in Brown County Indiana and white acorns and deer scat was everywhere but as said before no hickory nuts.
very scarce here in NE Pa.
Red oaks acorns the size of pecans in the shell coming down like a hail storm but nary a white oak, after two years of the white oaks carpeting the ground in some areas.
