Title: Big Jim Bush Bag
Post by: maxwell on September 12, 2016, 08:24:00 AM
Looking for some feed back on the bush bag or some comparable suggestions for ground hunting, any thoughts would be appreciated.

Maxwell,

I hunt almost exclusively on the ground.  I use a leafy coat or a guillie suit.  I make sure to wear a hood or something to break up my head and shoulder outline - that matters a lot. I have heard good things about Big Jim's bag but have never used one.

I think the obvious stuff like be still and don't move certainly apply.  I also believe it is more important to have brush behind you than in front.  Also practice shooting from kneeling position, I shoot kneeling when deer hunting. getting to full draw with a deer looking at you at 10 yards is not easy ... but pulling it off is a real rush man!

Good luck to you.

Bob.

I made my own. Start with a bdu jacket. I bought a camo blind that had oval shapes die cut in it. Cut it into long strips and sew on the jacket with the strips oriented horizontally. I overlapped the strips about 2 inches. When the seeing was done I trimmed the left chest area. Left the left arm bare except for the upper portion.
It has worked very well for me. It fooled a whole flock of turkeys standing in the open.

I've got the bush in a bag and like it. It's light weight, rolls up into a small bag and breathable and can be used as body camo or as a drape to sit behind.  No issues for me.

Never used a Bush in a bag but the Rancho Safari long coat, mask and hat work great. Little heavy for hot weather, but well it is made and it does the job it is intended for. Love hunting on the ground way off the beaten path. I usually carry a Waldrop Pack seat with me to complete the package.

I own two of the them.  You can wear them or sting them up for n easy to set up blind.  They are versatile.  Just make sure, if wearing, that your arms are free and clear.

Relative to my earlier post, I would definitely second Bill Turner and dirtguy, I almost never hunt without my Waldrop pack Seat.  That piece of gear has witnessed the demise of multiple deer.  It is a fantastic piece of equipment, especially when paired with a leafy suit or Rancho Safari Long coat.
