I guess you haven't forgotten that bow season starts Thursday?? :bigsmyl:
I have hopes of taking a deer on my own little farm this year, have a kinda narrow but very tall buck roaming about. Stand set and brushed, may put up a secondary stand this afternoon.
Gear is ready, gotta shoot broadheads some more, same bow as last year for a change, same arrows , same broadheads.
Good luck MO guys/gals!!
Good luck...
Good luck...
Thanks Kenny, hopefully these cool mornings keep on for us! trying a new bow this year and new locations...
Mike
It will be great if it stays cool. This morning feels wonderful outside. I have 3 bucks on camera on my in laws that I would shoot and another 4 in camera on my little farm. There is one in particular I will be after. I have quite a bit of history with this buck, but I'm not gonna be too aggressive going after him until the end of October.
Yes, 53* here this morn. Lovin it!
Probably better to lay off til late Oct., but man is it hard!!
This deer is sleeping in my CRP and going to neighbor's corn at night, so I'm trying him right off a couple times before the corn comes out. I try to adapt to what they are doing, but seem to be a bit behind them! LOL
Best of luck to everyone. I hope ya'll have a safe and memorable season. I intend to chase small game only this season, so I'll be waiting to read your success stories. From the amount of people I have seen in the crossbow section of the sporting goods stores, I'm afraid I won't have much fun deer hunting on public ground. I'm thinking I can have just as much fun chasing squirrels and rabbits in the lesser hunted areas, although they won't fill the freezer as fast.
I sure wish I could have a beagle...
I'm more than ready. I've already set limits so I don't intend to shoot more than 4 the first day.
Joined a club down in Sumner Kenny, so I guess you could say we are neighbors. Give me a hollar is you need help on the home place. LOL
I'll be hunting public up that way but may get some private access after a while.
Hard to believe it's time!
Jim, I think the cro**bow craze will be over in a year or 2. Guys I've talked to don't like the cumbersome things. I bet after the first month, a lot of em will be in the closet! Besides, you can walk in further if you aren't packin one.
Charlie, I need more trees on the home place, but it's too late for it to do me much good. Boys don't hunt much so I have to keep the place fairly clean if I need to sell it sometime. If I were rich and 20 I'd plant the most of it in oak and brush!! LOL
Tim, it is on us!!
Hung my last stand on a public tract I hunt near my house this morning.
Opening day I might drive a little bit to my uncles farm for an evening sit opening day and weekend. There are some "big boys" hanging out there.
Would be nice if the mild temps and low humidity go for awhile.
Best of luck to all.
Eric
Good luck guys!!! I have to wait till the first of Oct. to get out there.
I put up 2 ladder stands and a hang on last weekend. I've got a couple nice ones on camera but don't have much hope of seeing them in the daylight til later in season. I won't get to hunt til after the 19th.
I can't wait!
I have plans to be in a stand as early as Friday evening.
Good luck to all, and be sure to share success here!
Double post, so I decided to edit this one.
Charlie,
Good luck on that public land!
I hunt some private acres, but I have a passion for trying to find success on public land.
I don't really have an issue with public land. Being retired means I can be out there Mon- Fri. and I can tell ya there isn't much (or any) pressure on the public ground I've hunted during the work week.
Since I hunt archery only public areas the trophy potential is pretty darn good. Most often my private spots are hammered during the rifle season and finding bucks much over 3 1/2 years is rare.
Ill be out! Good luck to all.
I will hunt Thursday morning.
Good Luck everyone. I will be living through your hunting reports until October.
I'll hunt turkeys behind my house all day Thursday and then head to my farm to hunt deer with my dad on Friday.
Darren
Good luck to everyone!! I have my first trip in less than 2 weeks!! Hoping to get my first deer! Everyone send me your good experienced hunter vibes!! :D
I moved to Gasconade County this Summer... Have new farms to figure out this season.. This is going to be fun...! Funnels funnels and creek crossings...
Kenny, don't get all those local deer all jumpy wif that ole longbow!! HaHa
Charlie, if you get tired dragging out those four deer you are gonna kill call Kenny. He is good dragger. LOL
Liz, use up your beginner's luck before I send you any kind of vibes. The deer are onto any vibe I have!! :biglaugh:
David, they will never hear it coming... LOL
Charlie, shoot all four and call me in the morning. Have horsepower, will travel....
Planned on going this morning, 70% chance of rain turned into cloudy all day. Didn't get up and go due to forecast. Note to self- Get up and look and don't pay attention to weather man.....
Went tonite, not much happening til right at dark, full moon may be hurting day movement. Heard a fawn bleat early, think I heard 2 different bucks right before dark grunt a couple times apiece.
And, heard what I think was a bobcat catching a squirrel about 50 yards behind me. Wish the leaves were thinned out more, wanted badly to see him.
Good luck folks, be sure to post pics when you get something!!
Plenty of season left Kenny! Good luck!
Good luck to all of y'all. We still have 2 more weeks till our opener!
Bisch
Yes sir, Charlie. I dislike hot hunting and the danng bugs!! So I start really getting after em about the first of Oct. :)
Good luck to you Mr. Bisch!!
First morning out today.
One doe, 3 Jake's, 2 Toms and no shot.
The toms came in to 15 yards directly behind my stand but turned and down ridge in some cover.
Great morning though, felt good to be out again.
Eric
Well, the opener has come and gone.I managed to be there after it taking forever to get here.
Knowing very little about my proposed hunting spot I hit the ground at first light with no particular spot in mind.
The area was terrible. Thick weeds choked what was once the access trail into the place, making walking more than a little difficult.
I guess that influenced my early decision to get the hell off the trail and into the timber... heavy canopy means sparse ground cover.
Almost immediately I found scattered tracks and more importantly acorns. The acorns appeared to have been messed with so I decided there was no need to go further.
I quickly set up my Millinium Tree Seat, donned my ghillie and sat my ass down to wait. Within a half hour of the sun rising I had squirrels stirring in the oaks above me.
I saw three total and all seemed to be heading towards the same place. With them deserting the nuts of the trees around me I watched with interest their destination... or at least as far as I could tell.
A half hour went be when I caught a flicker of movement where I'd seen the squirrels last. Putting my Leica's into action I could just make out what ever it was I saw. After a few more seconds I realized I was seeing parts of a deer about 70 yards down the drainage.
I never could tell what sex it was or if it was alone but for the moment that didn't matter much. I was seeing deer.
The deer moved away from me and eventually out of sight all was quiet. It was barely 20 minutes later that the peace was interrupted by a commotion not 25 yards away as a doe and yearling burst into view.
At twenty yards the doe stopped and fed. Her companion continued through the brush to my right front.
I'm not sure what she saw that got her attention, but it was just a moment before I was getting the once over with some minor foot stomping. This was not good.
The yearling had moved to within 10 yards but at a bad angle for me and the way I was positioned.
:coffee:
Got a feeling there is more to this story.... :D
Kenny - be patient with us older guys. We need to nap between episodes :)

I like Charlies stories in person. He ususually finishes em same day.... :biglaugh:
:campfire:
Like I said, I don't know how she saw me. She sure shouldn't have. Head to toe ghillie, up against a tree, face camoed nicely, not moving. Who knows?
It didn't take long for this to all unwind. The doe got increasingly more upset. The head bobbing got more intense as did the foot stomping.
The little guy was now frozen in place looking.
It was an easy 10 yards as distance goes. The problem with making the shot on the yearling was that he was squarely at my 2 o'clock.
With a little cautious twisting at the hips, I figured, and I should be able to pull off the shot.
Slowly I started to pivot. My lower bow limb was in the clear between my legs and the bow up and pointed since I'd first seen the duo. I started my draw straight back and slowly.
The little guy started to figure me out. He took a half step and looked almost straight at me. I continued the draw. Just a few more inches and the arrow would be away.
I had been very careful about trimming around where my seat was. But it was the first hunt of the season and maybe I wasn't as careful as I thought.
With mere inches to goe my bowstring came up against a small limb just over my head. My draw absolutely stopped. Try as I might I couldn't close the deal and finish the draw.
I didn't really know what was up at that point. All I really knew was that the little doe was starting to get nervous and the big doe was walking away.
I leaned forward ever so slowly pulling the bowstring as I did. Finally my middle finger touched it's familiar anchor at the corner of my mouth.
The arrow was away but it wasn't a confident shot. I was in a very awkward position now. Twisted hard to the right and leaning forward from the waste somehow the arrow got away cleanly.
In the blur of motion that usually occurs at the moment of truth I saw the little deer squat and the lighted nock on it's carbon shaft pass right over his back. For what it's worth the alignment was superb.
There's something kind of special in moments like that. Every ounce of positive energy flies with the arrow. All tension is released and a joy comes over me. Even with a miss it mingles with the dejection of failure and somehow makes everything just fine.
The evening would have been uneventful had it not been for one little incident just before dark.
I'd seen in the light of day that there was very good sign almost everywhere under the pin oaks in my little draw. Tracks and poo and mauled acorns were everywhere. I decided to stay in my original spot.
With the shadows getting longer by the minute I was sitting thinking about the deer I'd seen through the glasses further down the draw when a doe walked out of the brush 20 yards away.
I couldn't believe my luck. This had all the makings of a liver and onion evening. The way I was facing the doe would follow the trail she was on and work right past me on my left side at about 10 yards. Duck soup right?
Let me tell you the problem with those slam dunk close shots that we all want so badly. Sometimes they just suck. I mean at that distance there is literally nothing you can do that is right.
But I'd done it before and my bow was pointed right where it needed to be. All it would take would be a short straight back pull (this time the limbs were all cleared) and release. She just needed to clear a little brush and it was go time.
I hate those couple of steps. If I had a nickel for every time I'd had it in the bag except for a couple of steps I'd be rich. It's just that as often as not something happens to screw it all up.
This time it was the fact that the doe just stopped and looked right at me. Damn! Again! I was more than a little flustered over this development. I can take my medicine like anyone else when it's my fault but I hadn't done a thing this time.
Like so many times before the doe stood staring at me. It only took a few seconds and she turned and bounded off. I was a little less philosophical this time. At least the four letter words I muttered under my breath didn't sound very philosophical.
The next morning I woke to the sound of rain on the cabin's tin roof. It felt pretty good to roll over and pull the covers up around my neck.
I hunted that second evening and the following morning only to have deer blowing from down wind.
There had been a wind shift with the storm front and I'd taken that into account in moving my stand, but obviously I didn't move it enough.
A little more scouting and I pulled to head home for a couple of days. There was business to take care of and a certain tree stand that needed to go in my truck.
I'll be back up there in a couple of days. The farmers were all just hanging around waiting for things to dry up. At some point they will take the corn and the woods will be loaded with deer. I intend to be there.
Well told Charlie.
And I know how the deer made you out. Your story made me think I was there, shoulda had my aluminum foil headband on, sorry! :D
Good hunt Charlie
You folks have fun and hunt safe......I'll be waiting for all the stories.
Kenny, good luck to you MO boy's. Looking forward to hitting Misouri in November after chigger season. Still have some scars from my last encounter with the little demons
:scared: :scared: :scared:
LOL Mike , there's no chiggers left in MO, they moved North for some reason.....
Bummer Charlie, Great Recap... Hopefully you get some meat for your family.
I was thinking you could set up like you were and have someone take a picture of your set up, it may show you what the does were seeing.
I had a small buck come in one time and I was getting ready to shoot him. he pegged me immediately so I took a picture to see what he may have saw.
This was his view
(http://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/cjohntalk/1351814466.jpg) (http://s1135.photobucket.com/user/cjohntalk/media/1351814466.jpg.html)
I looked like a giant turd next to a tree with intent to kill with my light saber.
Just this last week I'm seeing an explosion of scrape activity around the field edges, also noticing more bucks showing up again on the few trail cams I put out.
Great picture and great idea Cylic! I'm going to try that!
Man, wish I was off Monday and Tuesday!! Weather saying 45 Tuesday AM!!

You and me both!
After having not been around for a great while, I enjoyed this first thread I have read. Good Luck all. We are expecting lows in the low 60s here for a change (guess that's why they make ice) :bigsmyl:
Hey Mike, good to see you back!
I've been almost too busy to go, even in the cool weather@#$%%^
Did take my niece out in ghillie attire and had a bobcat with 2 kittens come up to about 25 yards, then turned in to the warm season grass and was gone. Pretty cool on the ground. She said she had never even seen one in the zoo, just the cage they were sposed to be in.
Then a small buck that tracked us in, and a doe at dark. Good hunt!! :bigsmyl:
I haven't been able to get out much lately due to work, but I got a quick hunt in last night. It was a pleasant evening with the temp in the 60s and a nice breeze. Not 5 minutes after I sat down a fox squirrel decided he wanted to be in the tree with me. He was at about 3 feet away and ready to jump on me, but luckily my constant hand waving convinced him I wasn't stable enough to jump on. I wasn't expecting much for deer, since there aren't just too many behind my house. But I ended up seeing a very large mature doe and her twins. I had no intentions of shooting her, even if they would be came in range. They moved on and all I saw the rest of the evening was a opossum. It was still really nice and a good break from work. I'll be at it again this evening. Good luck everybody.
Yep, Jake , a slow hunt is waaaay better than work for sure!! :biglaugh:
My work anyway, maybe not everybodies.
Definitely my work too. This evening is looking promising so far if this wind would stop swirling. I've seen 7 so far, but the wind keeps flip flopping and they are busting me. The downfalls of hunting along the Mississippi river.
I saw 2 little bucks on the way in, been quiet so far on stand cept for squirrels
Saw 13 turkeys last nite at 70 yards. Must have heard 25 more fly up in different spots.
I ended up seeing 10 deer last night, just nothing I wanted to shoot. All does and fawns except for one 2.5 year old 8 pointer.
OK, concrete is poured for the year(hope) , temps are sinking, I'm taking Thursday off, and maybe the next one too.
Somebody give us a blood trail!!
I was close to a bloodtrail Saturday night. I had a doe come in facing me at 25 yards and busted me when the wind made a slight swirl. The worst part was that I had a 4.5 year old buck walking straight to me to work a scrape under the tree I was in and he saw the doe and wouldn't come any closer. Fun times though.
Now that's what I'm talking bout! :bigsmyl:
I've been out a lot this year and was lucky enough to take one the first week but it's been tough since then. I've had a lot at 25 yds but I like 20 better and 10 is prefered lol
Hot again today but things are looking up for the end of the week and the weekend.
Wondering if any of you other MO boys do the bowhunter survey w the MDC? Ya basicly just check what ya see each evening on the form they send ya
Tim
Yep, I do the survey.
Yeah, I'm doing the survey as well. Good way to keep track of your season if you like that kind of thing.
Over a month of season and no harvest pics! :archer2: :)
Thursday I'm hoping. Taking a day off work. Have taken 2 of my best bucks on Oct. 20...... :D
At any rate, a poor day in the stand is better than a good day at work. :bigsmyl:
I like the way you think Kenny...I may take off Friday -
Anything can happen near the end of October
I'm working a lot of overtime this week and next and then it's go time for me.
I'll be hunting for 13 days straight starting next Saturday.
Have week off starting Sat. We might be cold enoh to frost Fri.? Get rid of those dang chiggers. BUT then suppose to warm back up. Maybe I'll hunt the mornings. Lots of acorns this year,
Wish me luck boys. I haven't shot anything but a wheelie bow since before summer. In fact that's the only bow I had until a month back. Life really got in the way this year and I have barely practiced with a stick and string since February but, today I decided to really see how my new omega long bow shoots. Heck man I almost traded it for a deer rifle but, just couldn't at the last minute. So I scrounged around in my odds and ends today and found a couple of 2117 that fit her real nice, a strap on quiver, and a few tips. I found bare shafts flew nice with 150 upfront so a fletched those arrows up and it was just like riding a bike. I was tagging bullseyes at 20 easy. I was really jonesing to take this bow out now but, what about broad heads? Well I thought I surely had something in my tackle box and I was right. It was fate two vpa 150's to go with my two arrows. So tomorrow I am gonna head out for a hunt. It will be later in the morning after I drop the kid off at school. Probably won't see much but, wish me luck boys.
Doe down this morn.
Good luck Jake!

Congrats!
So far only out three times so far but increasing activity every time. Lots of does around my stand and couple small bucks.
Thinking the bigger boys will be cruising through more in next couple weeks.
Heading Sunday morning to meet cousin at farm. Has some real nice deer around. First time out there this season, looking forward to it.
Eric
Gonna be a good morning - let's get after them
Tim
Got some things that have to be done this morn, good luck guys!
It is a beautiful morning here. I hope ya'll are enjoying the fall colors in your favorite woods.
Well I didn't see anything but turkeys this morning. Tonight should be different. I'm at the edge of a field where I had some does oh so close last weekend. The wind is good and I'm all settled in. I just checked a couple of cameras before I got in the stand. My wife is tickled right now. A buck she passed up last year showed back up and he's a stud now. Probably a 140 inch 7 pointer. I really hope she gets a chance at him.
I'm back where a nanny searched me out last week. Came in different route early and fixed the stand so it don't make that itty bitty clunk when you stand up. Will see how we get along tonite.
Good luck and hope your wife gets that buck!!
140" 7 pointer!!! :scared:
Jake,
Good luck to you and Hannah, are you on vacation time now?
Not yet Pat. We have to work this week and then we will be off. We had a couple of great hunts this evening. I saw 13 deer, including a 4.5 year old 8 pointer and several does. Hannah had two 140 class bucks at 25 yards most of the evening sparring but never had a shot. She let a handful of does walk by within 15 yards because the bucks were there. She has been excited all evening after all of that.

I'm not sure he's gonna quite hit 140 but he will be pretty close. I'll post a picture after I swap cards out. He's a stud of a deer.
Hope everyone is gettin ready for the morning hunt....seen some does yesterday morn but got skunked last night....
Good luck all
Tim
Saw 2 little bucks and 5 coons last nite, pretty slow. Skipped this morning....
Temps creeped up to the upper 70's last night....didn't have any deer movement till it was time to climb down
Yeah, warm last 2 days, here I go off to work and its 43* this morning!! ARRRGH !
More action last night despite the 70's temps. Grunted in a small buck and then seen couple fawns alone but later seen them all with the doe. Doe led them to my stand and at 15 yds they got spookey and exited with no shot opportunity.
Good to have some action
Things have been picking up at my main hunting spot. What started off as a pitiful year there for deer sightings has really turned around. Bucks are starting to move and scrapes are EVERYWHERE. Hoping for a cold front to come through with some long lasting temps! This one and done cold day stuff is bumming me out!
Ditto dude!
Swirling winds set off the deer alarms last night....then had a yote slip in behind me but couldent get a clear shot.
Looks like a heat wave is hitting us this weekend- 80 both sat and sun down here....
Here you go Michael... I put this on it's own thread, but forgot to place it here!

Nice job Again, Brad!! Great pic too!
Ya nice one brad- good shootin
Tim
Good thread guys. Enjoying it!
Only 2 more days of work. It's all business starting Saturday morning. I just wish we would have some cooler temps coming this way.
Nice one Brad, Congrats!
great looking buck !
Saw a super nice buck today at 10:30 AM..........while I was at work! :banghead:

Any idea what he was doing?
He crossed the highway from a cedar finger to a brush and grassy patch heading for another drainage. No hurry til I backed up on the highway to look him over. Not tracking a doe yet, just restless I think.
Ya I think the October lul is being drug out by this heat wave that lingers .... S wind all weekend down here
Tim
Yep, 80s at least thru Monday here, then cooling toward end of week. I'm starting vacation on the 3rd. Come on cool!!
Well fellas, I know it's gonna be warm, but my vacation starts tomorrow and I'm pumped! 13 days, hopefully I can get a crack at the buck I'm after. I feel that I get more and more excited every year for my annual rut vacation. It's gonna be a blast.
Good luck Jake!
My buddy was texting pics he took from outside the window of his work of two different bucks just cruising by!
I have some pics of a decent 9 pt coming through my murder hole gap at 0730 and a nice big doe at 0800...... we'll see what happens in the morning!
I also have this buck coming through at 2030
(http://i.imgur.com/UTRgUdC.jpg)
I'll keep you all posted!
The baby pumpkins come out today in MO (youth gun season opens) so if nothing else they should get some deer moving despite the temps
Good luck boys
Tim
I was lucky enough to get another little one this morning....
Anyone else have any luck?
Tim
Had some luck mowing yard for last time I hope, and brushed in a stand in a sycamore that shed all its leaves.
Changed oil on 4whlr, in other words, trying to get everything done before I take off on vacation to hunt!! :goldtooth:
Tim, congrats on the tender one!
The wife and I went hunting this morning, but saw nothing. As hot as it was this afternoon we decided to do some work on our basement instead of hunt. We will be after them again in the morning.
My plan too Jake, much better temp tomorrow.
NIce buck Brad!! Congrtulations. Bet you didn't know I'm an old Missouri boy raised on the Gascognade near Dixon. I love reading these Missouri threads.
God bless, Steve
Grunted in a little forkie at the edge of a corn field tonight....
They are still moving a bit - despite the temps
Tim
Just back in, saw 2 does, a fawn and a pestery 8 pt bugging the does. Also a dozen turkeys that fed at 30 yards in the brush for 30 minutes before heading back where they came from...
It's coming, get ready guys and gals!!
Like summer here lol
Had a uncooperative doe at 20 - just couldent get a clear shot....
Weather Channel says N wind this afternoon??
Tim
N here now and 57
Wow it's 75 on it's way to 80 here.....like summer
Tim
NE this eve, gonna try to see ol fat boy.
There is another older buck with a high rack but not too long tines I'd be happy with too ... :D
We are sitting out this afternoon. It's 80+ degrees here right now. We didn't see anything this morning. I'll have the right wind tomorrow morning to go in for the buck I'm after. Good luck tonight fellas.
Couple more days of heat but stay after them boys.
S wind here for a couple days - back to the corn field tonight
Tim
Well I got my first deer with the recurve this morning. I had a doe and fawn come by around 8:30 and got a shot at the doe at around 18 yards. I pulled my shot way left and thought I missed. When I went down to get my arrow it was coated in blood. I started following the trail and found the doe about 75 yards later. I happened to blow through her neck and cut her jugular. It was a bad shot with good results. Definitely not how I wanted things to happen, but at least it was a clean kill and not in the guts.
Jake,
It looks like you got the trick and treat out of the deal! Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good..... Congrats! I'm still trying to get my first of the season... Just too warm in my neck of the woods!
Awesome job Jake!!! Congrats on yer first bro!!
I just got set up at the edge of a corn field where I grunted in a buck couple nights ago....I have my doe decoy out at 20 yds so this could get interesting.....
Tim
Jake,
Again congratulations, quick kill and a short blood trail can't ask for much more.
Had a small six come out early at 5 but never saw the decoy as he stayed across the riva....I grunted to him and hit the can a coue times and had a doe come in from the north side if the corn field but she got down wind and headed west lol
Fun night
Ima go cook the deer heart from sat morn.....
Tim
Thanks again Pat, I appreciate everything. I had a good sit this evening, I ended up seeing 21 deer. Only 2 of them were bucks, and they were both small. I have a feeling that I'm gonna have to reach into a bag of tricks to kill one of these mature bucks when it's this hot.
Good job Jake! Freezer filler!!
I have been thinkin on the mature buck/ warm temp thing too. I think I need to be as close to their bed without blowing em out as I can. But shortly, their bedroom will be empty while they cruise, if not already.
Ahhh, rut time!!
It's close.....very close
Tim

I forgot to add a pic yesterday. I have some better pictures on an sd card I'll have to upload later.
Look at that....somebody left a perfectly good arrow next to that dead deer! :clapper:
Congrats Jake :clapper:
I wish I was good enough to make that shot on purpose; it sure does make for a quick, clean kill!
Thanks for sharing!
Nice doe Jake!!
Buck standing along hey 6 in some switchgrass this morn at 9.00 . It's close!
Looks like yer slaughtering hogs down there Jake lol
Congrats again
I had a doe in at 20 last night but quartering to me....swirling wind saved her....saw a couple other deer but no bucks...
Tim
Hannah and I are in the tree together. I'm hoping a mature doe comes in for her. If a good buck comes in from behind the tree he's mine. She gets everything out front of the tree. Last time we sat together November 2 I killed a buck I was targeting. So just maybe.....
Sweet good luck man....I'll be back out tonight
Tim
Good luck!! I saw my first in person hard antlered big big buck on the way to work this morn. Last day working til the 13th.... :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Well we snuck in quiet as a couple of church mice and got both of our stands set up within 100 yards of a bedding area. This is where the big boys usually hang out. If the wind will cooperate I have a good feeling about tonight.
I got out this evening after work and between thunderstorms.... ran a decent 8 pt out on my way in, wind shifted out of the north and saw another buck straight downwind 150 yards... he didn't stay around long after getting a big snoot full of me. The next one was a little forky that was dogging a doe. Then, just at last light a big 8 pt showed up... at 60 yards...... upwind, so I thought that I could maybe grunt him in.... NOPE! He blew and was gone! I'm still scratching my head on that one...
160+ buck got ran over 1/4 mile from my house tonite just after dark. :(
Dang Kenny - ya whack the head bones offt that joker at least?
I saw a deer walking in last night...it was 100
From my stand along the creek....I think it was bedded and stood when it saw me....that was the only deer I saw.
Weather breakin a little today.....can't wait to get out tonight
Tim
No ,a couple guys already had him. I was sick. I didn't even take a pic of him. Nev r seen him before, they are roaming now.
We are all set up here. Finally starting to cool down after sweating my butt off hanging out stands. Its still too dang warm here. I'm just hoping we are close enough to some bedding that we might have a buck cruise by and check it out.
Bigger bucks are moving a bit, in a week, the real nice ones will be traveling in daylight!!
Didn't even see a deer last night ....it was still 72' and windy....nicer outside this morning- dropped into the 40's
Man it's been a rough couple of days. Didn't see a deer yesterday or today yet. If things don't change in the morning We are gonna head to our farm about an hour away and find some fresh ground.
Hannah just killed a doe! Woohoo!!!
Alright Hannah!! Congrats!
I won't post pics because she's shooting a compound, but she made a perfect shot at 15 yards and it piled up around 55 yards away. She's been hunting just as hard as me and this is the first deer I've ever been with her that she killed with a bow. What a great evening.
Congrats Hannah!!
Last night deer were starting to run a bit. Had a small forkie chase a doe by then he showed back up and hung out a while then meandered offt only to push a doe 15 yds behind me but I never even tried to get a shot as it's a jungle behind me there but the forkie stayed back away from this doe as she looked peterbed - should be a exciting morning....deciding where to go....
Tim
We are settled in sitting in a tree near a funnel that bucks like to cruise through. I'm really hoping Hannah can get her first archery buck this morning. She won't shoot anything but 4.5 year olds and older, so it's been pretty tough getting her on one. Its hard enough for me to do it, let alone get somebody else on one. Its fun though, and that's really all that matters.
Had 2 doe w fawns come by this morning they were just a bit far at 25.....no bucks showed. A decent buck showed up on camera from another property I think I may hunt tonight....
Tim
Got a nice doe this am! 21 yd shot. Should be some good eats!!!

Atta'boy fireman!!
Heading out for the evening sit.....
Good luck boys
Tim
Nice one Brad!! See ya still packing the widder. :D
Just saw a good 10 on a flatbed pickup, things are gonna heat up shortly!!

Thank ya kindly!! Yup, and she still shoots better than I can!!
Had a 3 legged doe come by this morning but nothing following her....set back up by big woods and a corn field for the evening....have the doe decoy out in the field as a confidence decoy and so the deer have something that grabs their attention aside from me haha
Tim
Rodd,
Keep at it! It's funny how sometimes the grunt fires 'em up, and sometimes it freaks 'em out.
I hope you had some luck this weekend!
Still slow in N Mo, at least where I'm at.
No big bucks seen here at all....
This last weekend was a bust. .... first weekend of the month is usually always guard drill which is NOT conducive to being in the woods. Although I will be taking some vacation time this week to see if I can seal the deal. Things are never the same after rifle season!
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,
Rodd
I shot this buck the day before Halloween.

VPA 3 blade made for a short recovery

Then yesterday I had to watch a bigger buck make a scrape at 15 yards :knothead: No buck tag for another week :dunno:
It's been a fun season so far, as I also lucked into a nice gobbler with an 11" beard from the ground no blind.
It's getting crazy with tons of chasing, good luck guys! Hunt safe
Good buck RLA!! Atta'boy
Tim
Way to go Ryan!!
Congrats RLA!
Nice shot as well!
Thanks for sharing.
Had 2 diff bucks inside 20 last night...both smaller bucks and I woulda shot if either got in there just right but they wernt quite there. The one I grunted in 3 diff times....let him walk out to 50 then grunt a few and back he come....it's heating up boys....
Tim
Wind is back to north, frost wed morning, magic Wednesday is coming! Let er rip!! Good luck guys , be in that stand all you can now til gun season!! :bigsmyl:
Very nice buck Ryan, good shooting too!
Just had a 2.5 year old 8 pointer come cruising by in range. Just not quite what I'm looking for. Good start though.
Still slow here this morn, frost tonight should wake em up. There are some nice deer being taken, but slow where I've been.
Fixin to start my rut'cation here in a hour.....no more work till Monday......get'em boys
Tim
Big ol goose egg for me today... I laid off work and I didn't see a deer this morning nor this evening. I am hoping to get one knocked down prior to rifle season, but they are not wanting to cooperate.
Still no rut activity here, hoping frost in morn will wake em up!!
I've seen some deer out cruising while driving.
Also, this morning, with the aid of the headlights on my truck, I spotted a young one cruising through the field next to my house.
They're on the move!
Last night a jumped a deer bedded by the blind. Think it was a fawn. Set up and had my doe decoy out w some tinks 69. In 15 min a spike came trotting through - decoy worked great....he stopped and creeped 8 yds in front of my blind and hung out by decoy for almost 2 min before leaving. I let him go...then right at dark had another deer slip through - small doe I think- prob the one I jumped. Couldent get a clear shot.
Checked cam and had another decent buck there 11/7....headed back there this morn.....may sit it all day
Tim
I've done had a 2 year old 8 pt come by twice this morning. If he were just a couple years older I'd be tracking right now.
I had the little one come by this morn but just a tad too far
- I have the doe decoy set up again gambling to truck a decent buck
Good luck boys
Tim
Saw an 8 this morn, but he was just ambling along. Where the heck is the rut???
Can't be far Kenny. I'm headin back out after I grab some lunch
Tim
Just seen 3 small bucks chasing a doe through a cut corn field
Get in the woods boys
Or fields lol
Tim
Ahhhh, saw a good 8 at 3 this afternoon, crossed the road ,stood and looked at me like I owed him money.
Then, went to bro's for a quick hunt and a fairly good 8 came down the narrow field to me. I was thinkin when he clears all those leaves, I'll decide whether to try him or not. Weellll , he turned into the treeline with me at 10 feet.
Then stood there at 7 yards with a cedar branch over his vitals. I hadn't turned with him cause I didn't think I wanted to shoot, but the longer he stood, the better he looked. LOL
He crossed where I came in and was a little nervous, so with the combo of things, I let him walk....
It was worth the price of admission for sure!! :bigsmyl:
Think its gonna finally heat up here!!
I agree Kenny! After I busted some deer bedded by my stand I had a nice buck come by just after I got in the stand....I was trying to decide if I was gonna shoot when he caught my wind and turned inside out....he was prob 120's.....
SW wind here this morn and 34 - should be good
Good luck boys
Tim
Seen 3 bucks so far this morn. 1 was a biigg one. Too far, not chasing yet, but checking em all. That's good cause it keeps em moving looking for a hot chick. :goldtooth:
Of all the mornings to have a doctor appointment. Oh well, I was tired anyways. Ive been seeing small bucks on their feet, just nothing mature yet. Yesterday morning I was drawn back on a 3.5 year old 8 pointer, I just couldn't do it though. He was at 4 yards and ready for a truck ride, but I gave him a pass. I know there are a couple more mature bucks around that I'd like to get a shot at, so I'll keep after them.
Just saw 2 lil bucks cross the road , they are looking, gonna be back out somewhere in a bit...
Havn't been on here in a while. I've managed to get out for 9 sits so far.
Rattled a real nice 8 point in couple weeks ago at a family farm. Had him right at 20 yards broadside with an unfortunate sapling right in front of his mid-section, eventually moved off with no shot. Fun experience though. Later in the evening had a small, nicely formed 8 come by. Let him go by as he should be pretty nice in a couple seasons.
My cousin texted me saying hes seeing lots of daytime activity at the farm. Heading there tomorrow for one more time before the artillery starts here Saturday.
Eric
Lots of activity Wednesday and then yesterday (Thursday) only saw one lone doe the entire day lol
Today is the gran'tinale before the woods explode Saturday....
Stay after'em boys n good luck
Tim
Last Dance today before orange invasion.
Saw a whopper Thursday morning way after light. 4 does and a scrub buck last night. Too hot last nite!
Good luck!!
Well I'm back to work today. I have to work three 12 hour shifts and I'll be back at it Monday-Thursday. Good luck for today and the rest of the weekend fellas.
Haven't sen a single deer today.....
Think I'll move for the evening show...
Tim

A lot of cruising and chasing going on in Central Mo
Nice buck Trap!
Attaboy trap!!
Tim
Great job sir! Not much happening up north here. Was better 2 weeks back....
Great job sir! Not much happening up north here. Was better 2 weeks back....
Nice work Trap! Congrats!
Yea Buddy, Trap , that is a nice one for sure.
Congratulations and God bless, Steve
Well done TRAP!
Out this evening, had three does come through moving fast.
Figured the chase was on but alas no bucks following
Done till after gun season, think I may relocate a stand or two for the second half this weekend
Eric
Well, said nothin much was happening but a cruiser came thru this afternoon at 2:14...
Wish I had stripped to my T shirt, my wife got me one that says:
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE AN OLD GUY WITH A BOW !!
:clapper: Nice one!
Nice one Kenny!
Nice work Kenny!
Beautiful!
You are the man Kenny! Congratulations!
Nice buck Kenny.
I haven't kept up with this thread for a while, but thought I'd add a couple things.
First off I finally killed a turkey with my bow. First ever!! This was a couple weeks back. I have a ladderstand I placed this year tucked back into a cedar and this was the first time I sat it. (http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/qq309/dnlnovo/IMG_0313.jpg) (http://s458.photobucket.com/user/dnlnovo/media/IMG_0313.jpg.html)
Now yesterday I came flying home with not much time and grabbed my bow to hit the woods for that last evening before the guns came out. I went to this same stand where I got the turkey. It would be the 3rd time I've been in it all season. I didn't change my clothes, just went as I was dressed for work. Plaid flannel shirt, brown pants, work boots. About 20 minutes before dark I was hearing something off to my left and kept thinking it was this squirrel I had seen a little bit earlier. No, here is this big doe right there about 7-8 yds. She was really scoping things out plus she was down wind but the wind was blowing pretty good and I think it was going over her head. she finally came out past me a little and I hit her a touch high, but in the spine. Had to get down to put a finishing arrow in her as I couldn't get one through the brush.
(http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/qq309/dnlnovo/IMG_0364.jpg) (http://s458.photobucket.com/user/dnlnovo/media/IMG_0364.jpg.html)
I was pretty happy as this was my first shot at a deer all season. She was a big doe and I think she is the one that has been busting me for a couple years.
Way to go guys.
I'm working a CWD sampling station in Randolph County this weekend. You wouldn't think there would be any deer left after a weekend of firearms season. It's Absurd the number of bucks that get taken.
Good Luck the second half.
Atta'boy Kenny!
Atta'boy Dan! Nice turkey and doe!!
Tim
Great job Dan! Turkeys are hard to do without a blind...
Trap, I was at the CWD sampling station yesterday, amazing number of bucks there, didn't see a doe. wonder how the next couple seasons will turn out....
Good job Kenny
Nice job on the turkey and doe!
I really despise gun season. And it's not because of weapon choice, I could care less about that. It's because of all these clowns that come out of the woodwork and the way that they act. Gun season antics just really gets under my skin. I guess I"m getting old and grumpy.
Lol Jake, just wait til you really get old and grumpy! You think even less of em....
QuoteOriginally posted by kennym:

Haha. I just wish people had more respect for both others and the animals that they hunt. I feel like it's pretty sad the way that a lot of younger people are growing up learning how to "hunt".
I agree 100%, Jake...
I agree too Jake....you smart fer a young man lol
Tim
Congrats Kenny!!! Everyone else as well!!!
Good morning all! I'm set up waiting on a mature cruiser this morning. Then again, aren't we all. This has been a rough year as far as mature buck sightings go for me. I've really had a tough time seeing much of anything. Hopefully it will change soon. I'm doing everything I can think of to find them.
Ditto brother have had a tough year for hunting so far.
Stay after them jake....
Tim
Yesterday while at work I saw more bucks on the move than any day so far. Folks I talked to said deer everywhere. Think the rut is a little later this year....
Nice buck Kenny.
Agreed Jake, I would deem it a big joke....but there's nothing funny about it.
Soooo.....I heard that a neighbor of some of my family killed a 6 pointer. No big deal, even though I wouldn't shoot it. Congrats for him. But then I heard that another guys son shot a 6 pointer on that guys land. Hmmm....something seems fishy with that. Well, I did some digging and found out that the neighbor tagged the 6 pointer that his buddy's son killed. And that was the kids first deer. How sad is that? From the word go, that's what this kid is being taught. They completely stole the experience from this kid. He'll never be able to relive that hunt to friends and family because it wasn't his deer any longer. Pretty pathetic. And now this is what this kid is going to think is okay. Just makes me shake my head.
How some people sleep at night, amazes me....
So wait what happened?
Great buck Trap!
Great buck Kennym
Way to go my friends in Missouri! Congratulations!
Kenny :clapper:
Thanks KennyB !
You guys haven't quit for gun season have ya?
30 to 40 mph wind tomorrow, so I'm putting new lights in my shop. Saturday will be cold with NW wind, gonna go back to the stand I shot the buck from the other day.
Did see what I thought was a buck in the dark coming home from work tonite. A big lone deer in a cornfield, couldn't make out any rack on it tho.
Ain't quit Kenny....waiting for the gun season to close....
That's messed up for sure jake....
Good luck boys
Tim
I haven't quit. Just doing my time at work. I have to work the next 3 days, then off Monday, then work Tuesday and Wednesday. After that though, 8 days off. Can't wait to get back in the woods.
I was just kiddin you all! I've killed some does with bow during gun and passed a few bucks, would sure like to shoot one in that wonderful orange!!
Anybody out and about this weekend?
Been out but not hunting, helping bro plant some warm season grass. Great deer bedding!
Hunters I've talked to aren't seeing much, not surprised tho. Bucks prob holed up with does, should get better again next week or so. Up here anyway.....
I hope that's the case. I have 8 days off coming up and am itching for it to get here. I'm having a tough year finding the bucks I have a lot of pics of, but if I have some good North winds I have an idea of where I can find one.
I hunted pretty hard the first 4 days of the orange season and just saw a bunch of 2-year-olds out looking for love.
Out this am, 1 doe and a bunch of squirrels. Heard a lot of turkeys talking and a couple gobbles.
Had a 2 1/2 yr old 8 pointer come by last night. Had 3 does come in behind me this morning and picked me off. Had a small buck cross below me and caught my wind also. Moved that stand again
Saw a pretty good buck this morn in dark while I was driving to work. He wasn't with a doe, just cruising. May start getting better now!
Well my wife got a nice 8 pointer with the gun this morning. We had 3 years worth of pics of him. I was sitting with the bow when I heard her shoot. I'm excited for her and proud of her too. Time for a trip to the taxidermist.
Good deal!! Congrats to her! Was the buck with does or lonesome?
He was cruising for does and happened to find some right in front of her stand. He was walking towards the does when she shot him.
Good, lock down may be fading some....
Kenny, I sure hope you're right.... It has been very dismal for me this year.... getting all kinds of pics after hours, but cannot, for the life of me, get a shot on a deer during legal shooting light..... I'm sure that the orange army has things screwed up some, but daggone!
Good luck, shoot straight and God Bless,
Rodd
Hang in there Rodd! Every day is different and could be the day they get moving again!
4 day weekend coming up, should have good amount of time in the trees.
Meeting my cousin at the farm Friday morning, other days Ill be on some public ground in between family gatherings.
Eric
Be back after them tonight if it's not pouring.....
Tim
Don't forget about the turkeys! Saw these today while driving at work
I'm just as likely to let an arrow go at a turkey as I am an 8 pointer, they have been my nemesis!
(http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj93/ruger1970/FA706D5E-03DD-452A-A37F-B78ED95BA6A3.jpg) (http://s270.photobucket.com/user/ruger1970/media/FA706D5E-03DD-452A-A37F-B78ED95BA6A3.jpg.html)
Didn't see any tonight from the stand but saw a few riding the wheeler home.....be back after them in the mornin! Happy thanksgiving!
Tim
Made some adjustments to my stand tonite, after I sat in it for a bit and didn't like how it was .
Made enough racket and stunk the place up enuff, figured it was done for the evening.
Then parked the truck in a good recon spot and sat in it til dark, nothin showed.
Should be a good morning here-- low 40's N wind
Good luck boys
Tim
Yep, great morning for sure ,good luck!!
I have a feeling this could be my day. I got in here and set up quiet as can be. Within 2 minutes of sitting down I had some grunting and snort wheezing and chasing.
Out tonite, saw no deer on the way or way home, and none while in stand.
I've been out a couple of times over the Thanksgiving break.
I've just been seeing some young bucks... not even any does.
I'm hoping late season over a harvested corn field might be the ticket!
Young bucks here too.....
Should get back to normal soon
Tim
Hopin for a fairly cold snap, then hunt between bedding and food of choice. Time to be pretty mobile as food may change every few days...
I jumped 3 does coming out of the woods yesterday... I saw absolutely nothing from the stand... both morning and evening.... I went out this morning and let an arrow fly at a coyote... man those things can be quick! Needless to say, all I managed to hit was the ground! No deer this morning either.... I'm going to have to mix things up a bit.
Good luck, shoot straight and God Bless,
Rodd
Been staying out of my property in MO since a few days before rifle season started. Just waiting now for the temps to drop to hunt the food plots.
Been staying out of my property in MO since a few days before rifle season started. Just waiting now for the temps to drop to hunt the food plots.
Back in a stand just now, not in as thick of stuff as I'd like, but wind matters.
It is a travel route that got little gun pressure. :)
Saw half a dozen, something chased em up the grown over levee between beanfields toward me, a big doe and a spike made it to me out in front, wouldn't ya know the spike stood at 10 yards and the big doe at 30 with sticks in the way of her.
After while they went back the other way and another decent sized doe came by at a pretty good clip on my right, no shootin tonite.....
Several reports of bucks chasing again. Hang with em folks!!
I havent seen a deer from the stand in weeks....
I have some pics of bucks still in the area, but just after dark or real early in the mornings...
Guess we will see what happens this week/weekend.
Good luck. shoot straight and God Bless,
Rodd
With rut winding down, time to hunt food near great bedding. I may take a day off work! LOL
Ive been busy chasing ducks but I'm sitting over one of my food plots tonight!!
Tim
So here I sit in a ghillie in some thick stuff. Report later......
Good luck Kenny. I haven't been out too much lately. My next chance to go will be on Monday. Hopefully I can at least put another doe in the freezer.
Not much to report, small buck at 20 feet before he made me. Needs a couple years anyway.
One more time in the morning, back to the stand I took the buck from last month. Then I "might" rest for a few days.... :D
It appears I won't be out for a few days at least. Took a fall at work and my right shoulder is hurting. Can't raise my arm very far above my waist.
Sorry to jear this Dan.
Take care.
Thanks Ron
Are you going to squirrel hunt. I was planning on it til this happened
Dang Dan, hate to hear that! Take care, and hope you heal up quick!
22 degrees, no wind, Lil buck chasing a doe. Maybe a bigger one will be along!!
Good luck this morning. Knock a big one down!
Not this morning! Saw a yote at 150, called him in to 60. Squeaked til my lips hurt! LOL
When he got to where I walked in, he stopped and sniffed around for quite awhile, then went his own way. Almost fooled a coyote nose, great morning!!
Home to take care of business and stuff around the place. I should be back out next week sometime. I don't much care for the cold weather, but do get use to it after a bit.
So far I've not seen a deer post firearms season. Thanks for the reminder Kenny. Think I'll throw the varmint call in my pocket next time out. The coyotes should be getting hungry with the cold.
Learning to do a lip squeak may be one of the handiest trick a bowhunter can have in his bag. Don't remember how many coyotes, fox, bobcat, whatever I've called because I learned to do that as a boy.
I think I have an open reed call in my pack too Charlie. I rarely use it tho because I don't want to blind call when waiting for deer, and if I see a yote I just use the ol lip squeak so I don't have to dig for the call. LOL
Same here buddy. If you can see them they can usually hear a lip squeak.
Are you getting snow this morning?
Yep, bout a half inch so far, but at 33*, won't stay long. More Wednesday they say, were saying up to 7" then but are backing off a lot on that. Have it down to a couple now I think.
Thinking about coming back up this week, but if it.s too sloppy I may not. They say real cold stuff headed in late this week.
Yep, I use my fone for weather usually and it blew up Friday. They were saying high in low 20s for Friday. Probably have backed off that too by now.
Cold coming, deer will move early to eat.
Who is still goin?
I am , taking off tomorrow for AM eye appt., then somewhere tomorrow eve to see what is goin on in the deer world.....
I'll be going again tomorrow. Maybe not the morning, but the evening for sure. Should be up and on their feet ahead of the nasty weather.
Going to try to make it out Friday evening and some over the weekend.... Guess we'll see what happens!
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless!
Rodd
Good luck Rodd!
I'll make it out this weekend, but not until Saturday evening probably.
Saw about 15 tonite, but all were out in a beanfield. I had 2 choices of stands, one where I could see a lot and one not so much. All the deer went past the stand I wasn't on, haha.
One was a really nice 9 point, he was within 150 yards for 30 minutes. Aarrghhh.
This a test just trying to change my profile pic
Saw 6 does and a different buck this morning, they all went by stands I wasn't in! Will be tonite..... :saywhat:
I've watched two does do the same thing two weekends in a row now.... I know where I need to be next week.
I just got back in from another 'no deer seen' night..... if I hadn't seen a nice buck on my way to work wed morning, I'd think that they'd all left the country!!!! Gonna try again tomorrow afternoon! Fingers crossed!
Good luck, shoot straight and God Bless,
Rodd
I was skunked tonite too Rodd!
Sad story. I have a buck that I've seen on cameras for 3 years. I've grown to recognize his rack. I had a couple pictures last year of him in late evening, but this year every picture is at night. I didn't have a lot of hope of getting a shot at him, but as bowhunters like we are, hope never dies....Until today.
Here he is in late summer.

(http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/qq309/dnlnovo/PICT0308.jpg) (http://s458.photobucket.com/user/dnlnovo/media/PICT0308.jpg.html)
I haven't hunted for a couple weeks as I had taken a spill at work and hurt my shoulder which is feeling a lot better and I think I am about ready to shoot again. Today I went down in a steep hollow on my property and this is what I found in a ditch at the very bottom.
(http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/qq309/dnlnovo/IMG_0379.jpg) (http://s458.photobucket.com/user/dnlnovo/media/IMG_0379.jpg.html)
(http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/qq309/dnlnovo/IMG_0380.jpg) (http://s458.photobucket.com/user/dnlnovo/media/IMG_0380.jpg.html)
So I'm pretty bummed out. I did take the head which I will make into a skull mount. I'm guessing he was a victim of our rifle season but will never know for sure. At least I have something
That's a bummer dnovo. At least you know what happened to him though, and get to keep a very nice rack as well. It's a shame to find them dead like that, but as we all know it's part of it. I know some guys aren't big fans of trail cams, but this is one of the reasons that I like them. It allows you to build a history with a deer and watch them grow up. Also, it helps to give some guys more motivation to hold out for a bigger mature buck. I know racks aren't everything, but it sure is nice to see a big mature buck show up on camera when you think there aren't any around.
As for myself, I had planned on hunting the other day but ended up having some unexpected stuff come up. As long as everything goes as planned, I'll be getting back into the tree tomorrow evening. I'd really like to find me a good late season buck. I know there are still a couple on the property I'll be hunting, so at least there's a chance.
Great buck Dan, wish he had had a better end.
Magnificent animal... I agree with Kenny, I wish he had a better end.
14* and 10 mph ESE wind = doe hanging. BRRRR but worth it.
Shot her at 4:21 , she went about 50 yards in 4ish seconds and landed on the other side of levee.
Called bro John and he came out and brought my truck down while I took care of field dressing.
Our pickups take the same key, whats the chances!!
Backed up in beanfield and put her in truck, no drag job, another lucky deer break!!
No pics, because it was cold, and photographer had to get back to go to granddaughters Christmas program.
Congrats Kenny! You earned that one, braving the cold temps like this. Probably felt good to field dress her!
I should have been out this morning, took wifes dog to vet and saw deer everywhere.
Didn't go because by this morning, my feet had just gotten the feeling in em again from last nite!! :biglaugh:
Congrats Kenny
Way to brave the elements and good shot.
It's been 2 weeks for me since I fell. My arm/shoulder is feeling a lot better. The motion to bring my elbow up in a drawing motion is still the most painful but a lot better than it was. Once I get the elbow up drawing the bow is ok
Nice Kenny! How many this year for you now?
Hope you can shoot again before season is over Dan!!
Tim, that is 3 but I gave the first one to a bud.
Can't decide whether to try for another or concentrate on yotes now. Maybe alternate efforts....
When I grow up I wanna be like you. :archer:
Tim , I never grew up!! :help:
Hey Kenny...great job! Got to love those tough conditions...especially when it comes together... I hunted in the freezing rain this morning...no joy...I'm chasing a BB I've seen a couple of time...
You're tough ,Craig!! I should have gone this morning, would have been better conditions than tomorrow by far. Good luck with him!!
I had to go check some roads this morning at daybreak, -12 but not much wind. This should make ya feel better if you didn't go this morning, I saw 0 animals, and only about a dozen puffed up crows. :coffee:
Should be good tonight tho!!
Anybody out there? I'm in same stand I took the doe from last week or so.... will the buck show? Don't know but here I am!
Kenny,
I'll be out there in the morning! Hang in there buddy!!!!!
Well, I got one tonite but it wasn't the buck I wanted...... :saywhat:
Nice evening to be in stand, about 4:30 a little buck comes along and I watch him. He acts like he smells something is up but doesn't spook. After a bit he goes back the way he came, then when out of sight, he blows just a little.
Not knowing what is up, I stand up and about 30 seconds later see something coming behind some pinoak branches. Alright, a yote!! No, a cat!!
He comes down the trail and when he goes behind a big pinoak, I draw. When he clears, I lip squeak , he stops, I shoot.
He instantly jumps straight toward my stand, not sure how high, but he was getting bigger fast! Hits the gound and streaks away, going under a group of pinoaks out in the field. Never comes out.
I sit for a bit and decide the bloody arrow on the trail is not gonna be any good for waiting on a deer, so I get down and go look. He is right there. the power of a sharp broadhead never ceases to amaze!!

Congrats Kenny! Nice cat!
Way to go Kenny!!!
Way to go Kenny!!!
Nice shooting. It sounds like you have had a great season so far. Congrat's.
That's awesome Kenny. Looks like it's still cold there
Thanks guys!
Darrell , nothin like when you were here, mid 30s but the wind was chilly and I wasn't takin any chance on being cold!!
Beautiful Cat!
Great cat Kenny!
Nice! Way to keep at it. I wont' make it back out until after Christmas for sure.
really impressive Kenny! is that your first cat with the bow?
No it's the third with longbow, cats and small bucks are really attracted to me! LOL

Funny! I have been a "skunk magnet" for years, but have so far never been sprayed.
Ok here I sit in a stand I've not hunted this year. Hoping to see some deer! Merry Christmas Eve everyone!!
Saw deer , 2 wee bucks and 2 does. Of course the one buck was 2 yards and the does were 200. LOL
Oh and a possum.
I went out this morning.... loads of squirrels, no deer. I brought in my cameras and have some pictures of deer.... they are there when I'm not. simple as that! Didn't make it out this evening.
Maybe Monday....
Good luck, Shoot straight and God Bless!
Merry Christmas!
Rodd
Good Habitat equals MO bobcats.
That's a dandy, congrats!!!!
Merry Christmas to all my Missouri buddies!
I'm not throwing in the towel yet... hopefully next week I'll have a story to share.
Stay with em Brad, seems to be feast or famine for the most part here, might see 1 or a dozen.....
I have to get out tomorrow and check some cameras. Got a couple that I know batteries were getting low a month ago. I'm hoping to get a couple hunts in yet before season ends. My shoulder has been feeling quite a bit better last couple days.
I've been seeing a few in field right before dark this week.
Well, I went for a walk yesterday on public ground to do some scouting/still hunting. I ended up seeing my first ever wild hog. I jumped up what appeared to be a big boar from about 10 feet away in a honeysuckle patch. And later on I ran into a group of 6 or 7 hogs. They were around 35 yards or so. Several of them were good sized hogs. I sure hope the MDC knocks these things back, but I don't see it happening.
Jake I think they are hard to get rid of. Birth rate is tremendous.
I sat a beautiful morning stand today and saw 2 squirrels!
Moved aways off tonite in more of an observation stand, always a chance of a stray one tho.....
I'm ready for Saturday to get here. I have a 3 day weekend coming up and will be hunting hard to get another deer. Time is running out!
Well the squeak just worked on my pointer.
I' goin on the ground tonite, are deer scared of small sasquatchs? :biglaugh:
Got my ghillie out and a decent place to try it again.....
Well well , back in a bit........ . :)

Nice work Kenny! I went out for a bit this morning but had no luck. It started raining and I've been a little sick, so I came back to the house.
I've been lucky in more than one way, Jake. Bro has a head cold that won't go away. So far I haven't gotten it!
I usually don't get sick, I think I got this from my wife. I'm gonna try to get out tomorrow if I feel better. If not, at least I feel better than your doe!
Wow Kenny, you are a bow and arrow hit man this year!
Kenny
Nice doe. Congrats again. You're my hero this year. Thanks for taking us along on your hunts this year. I finally shot my bow again Friday night. Didn't hunt the whole month of December. Between my shoulder and the holidays no chance to get out but I'm planning on a couple more hunts before season ends. Saw 6 does this morning crossing through my front yard.
Thanks guys!
Dan, I hope you can get out there! I love late season.
This morning, a dog followed me and barked for a half hour of buck time just out of sight.
The does smelled me when they showed up. (funky wind)
The coyotes saw me from 5 yards out of my preferred range. They are sharp now!!
All in all, a great morning!! LOL (seriously)
I would have been the vegetarian tonite, let 2 possums go and then shot under a big doe.
In my defense, I was about frozen, that East wind was brutal. Only one excuse per miss, right? :D :archer2: :archer2: :archer2:
I went this morning but had no luck. I did end up seeing the tail end of a couple does as I walked out. I also saw a flock of 50 or so turkeys as I was leaving. I didn't hunt this evening. I spent the last 4 hours looking for my dog. Finally found him a couple miles from the house not long ago.
Glad you found him, Jake!
Well, looks like this weekend is gonna be my last chance to hunt for the season. Next Friday I'm going under the knife on my back. I have a ruptured disc and it's time to get it taken care of. At least I won't be missing but one weekend of hunting and I'll be good to go by the time turkey season rolls around.
Good luck hunting and with the surgery Jake!!
Ruptured discs can sure put a damper on things. I had surgery on my neck a couple of years ago and it was well worth the effort. Best of luck to you this Friday, Jake. I hope you mend quickly and have a great turkey season.
Gonna get some snow maybe!!! Woo-hoo!!
Only downfall will be highs of around 20* , but have wool, will travel!
Thanks for the well wishes guys. I have Friday evening, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday left to hunt. I'm gonna give it my best and see if I can't fill my other statewide tag. I'm ready to break out my berber fleece if needed. I'm ready for whatever conditions are coming.
Break out the Berber jake. It's 7 here w a wind chill of -3. I'm goin on a late mornin hunt after a while. I gotta feed this wood stove a while lol
Tim
I'm really in a lot of pain. I can barely even sleep a couple hours a night. I think my season is done. I don't think it will do me any good to try and hunt at this point. I can barely get around.
Dang Jake, don't push it. Hope you can get it fixed!
Brrrr, 19* when I went in at 2:00 and 11* when I came out. Back to the wind and hood flipped half up on my parka to keep wind off neck and ears.
Saw several, including one buck I'd love to have had 140 yards closer! LOL
I was happy to be able to hit the woods again today after a month. Saw 2 squirrels but content to get back out. Not so bad here. 25* and not much wind
Glad you're back hunting Dan!!
I got skunked....that's huntin I reckon
Tim
6* this morn with a bit of wind, wimped out I guess cause I didn't go. Over 20 now with a stiff SE wind, I better go tonite because I may be plowing snow next weekend looking at the forecast.
Hoping for a bit of good luck tonite, may be end of season depending on weather next weekend. :help:
Good luck Kenny. I just pulled up to the gate. I'm feeling better today and hoping for some end of season luck tonight. Should be a good evening.
Good luck to you Jake, glad you are able to make it out!
Good luck boys I'm rolling out for the evening hunt as well.....
Tim
Well I had my chance and blew it. I hit a doe high in the back, about an inch from the top. She ran off but stayed within sight for awhile. She kept looking back towards me like she didn't know what happened and never acted like anything was wrong. I knew it wasn't lethal as soon as I saw it hit her. I completely lost focus and didn't pick a spot. Well that sucks.
That happens Jake! Hope the surgery goes well!
Oh and I saw 8 does/fawns but waaay out there!
Anyone after them? They shuttin'er down tomorrow eve.....
It's raining freezing mix here right now....hope it blows out soon....I'll be after them next couple evenings if the weather cooperates......
Sorry to hear that Jake....if I can help ya let me know....
Tim
Skunked both times yesterday, a bit of freezing rain this morning. May do a ground sit tonite, tomorrow sounds like a lot of freezing rain.
Good luck!
Well I'm fixing to head home from the hospital. The surgery went well, just gonna be a long road to recovery.
Glad to hear that Jake, do what doc says!
Well wishes Jake.....got plenty of time to recover before nest year.....
I'm guarding a trail leading to a wheat field...good luck boys
Tim
Good luck Tim. Shoot one for me. If all goes well I should be completely restriction free the week before turkey season.
They tricked me and came out another trail.....
Tim
You still got time Tim. Get em tomorrow!
I didn't get out. 3/8" of ice covering everything here made me use discretion for once. Then 2 of the grandkids came over. They're close enough to walk.
Looks like the ice is hitting you again this morning dan?
Im rain free this morning for a while....heading out after some coffee....
Tim
We got a little more ice overnight. It's been raining lightly all morning. Forecast looks good for getting rid of ice tonite. Just don't know if this afternoon hunt is doable yet

Looks like what we had Friday dan.....
Caught a glimpse of a deer and saw a 3 legged yote.....
One last hunt after I get some lunch....deer burgers it is...
Tim B
Icing here right now. Slick as snot just getting to the shop. I guess I'm probably done till fall. :(
Except turkeys... :)
