Title: A new side quiver for a friend
Post by: die_dunkelheit on September 09, 2016, 09:44:00 AM
A good friend's birthday is this week so I made a side quiver for him as he is without a good quiver to hunt with or shoot in general. It's similar to the side quivers I made for the girlfriend and I, but I incorporated some improvements from the previous design. This is 1000d Cordura, HDPE stiffener, speaker box felt, jacquard webbing, ITW Nexus hardware, and some poplar, all made in the USA and finally sewn in my garage.

No longer sewn inside-out then flipped like the previous version. Makes for a more teardrop shape so it follows the body better.

Linseed oiled poplar, laced on with paracord

Felt lined to knock down on rattle and for a nice finished look, plus 1/2" thick foam bottom under the same felt to keep broadheads from poking through. The felt is laminated to a plastic stiffener which is laminated to the back-face of the cordura which gives it that rigid appearance.

Permanent dividers top & bottom to organize arrows and also tie the back into the shoulder strap for support. The previous one had removable dividers which did not support the body of the quiver so it slouched.

Different bottom construction. Bottom is now recessed, it looks better.

Yes it is real Crye MultiCam, I just wish it wasn't printed all over the binding tape...

The previous version wearing my girlfriend. It's more round and not as well supported, but it lead to the new one which is awesome.

Excuse the bow in this pic, it's a pvc bow I made just so she could decide she was interested in archery, she is of course and has a proper bow now.

That is awesome.  Would you mind if I were to rip off your design and do a leather version?   ;)

Thanks guys, it was a good project. I'm going to remake mine and my girlfriends using the improvements I incorporated on this one.

Unless I am mistaken, the design for this type of quiver was/is Bobby Ratliff's.  He made them with leather and various upgrade wood with lots of variations based on your  particular desires.

I'm not claiming that it's my original design, at least in concept of two circular sections connected by a piece of wood, but it's also no ones original design that still lives today. This type of quiver has been around for a while...

Nice quiver. I'd. E interested in learning how you did this. Have you ever considered doing how-to so someone as clueless as myself could learn how?

There's more to it than that. I make custom tactical gear: chest rigs, armor carriers, mag pouches, and the like. To make this quiver I used my industrial sewing machine and some attachments that won't really work on a home machine (binding tape folder for example). I do intend on making a "behind the scenes" video to put on my website though, it will probably include some production sequences of this quiver.

However, if you have a general interest in making gear like I do I have some good resources to point you to.
