Title: Headed to Elk Country
Post by: RedRidge on September 08, 2016, 11:42:00 PM
As the title states I am heading out to elk country tomorrow to hunt until next Friday. Really looking forward to it. Still looking to take my first elk and I have an either sex tag in my pocket. I will make sure to post pictures when I get back. Will have my Sarrels Blue Ridge 52@28 with Gold Tip arrows and cutthroat broad heads. Wish me luck!

Thanks for the well wishes. Good luck to you all too, Basin, Burnsie, and Broken.
Bisch, the quiver is working great. Now if I can get some of your mojo to rub off my blue ridge we will be ready!
My buddy and his dad arrived to camp this morning, but I can't leave until around lunch today. I will update this thread as I can with pictures.

Well I got back from my elk hunt late Friday night. We had a ball. The first few days we hunted a few different spots trying to get a feel for the area until we found a nice bench up on a ridge that had a ton of sign. This was my second elk hunt and since my last I worked hard on shooting and calling. I soon noticed that where we were hunting there wasn't a lot of cows around and we tried to entice some bulls we heard with the cow calls and they had nothing to do with it. As soon as i tried bugling at them I knew this was the way to go. The last three days the elk were fired up. I called a nice 6x6 to 5 yards. I was setup behind a large tree on my knees and he came straight to me. He had two choices. If he went to my left I had him dead to rights. IF he went to my right it was going to be tricky to get drawn back. Well you guessed it, he went to my right and as he got right in front of me he spotted me and jumped up and turned around. At this point he was quartering away and moved back to 7-8 yards. I had a small basketball sized window to shoot through from the tree that was covering me and got to anchor and let it fly. My arrow deflected off a branch and sailed over his back. Man what a rush! To call a bull in that close was an experience. Unfortunately it didn't end up like I wanted, but thats how it goes I guess. The next two days I called for my buddy and got into many bugling matches that didn't produce any clean shots for my friend. Total I called in 4 bulls inside of 30 yards. I definitely learned a lot and am already wanting to go back. Here are a few pics of the trip.   (http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr304/orduck10/IMG_0754_zps78lxthgm.jpg) (http://s494.photobucket.com/user/orduck10/media/IMG_0754_zps78lxthgm.jpg.html)   (http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr304/orduck10/IMG_0709_zpslfoktr99.jpg) (http://s494.photobucket.com/user/orduck10/media/IMG_0709_zpslfoktr99.jpg.html)   (http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr304/orduck10/IMG_0733_zps3beklz3k.jpg) (http://s494.photobucket.com/user/orduck10/media/IMG_0733_zps3beklz3k.jpg.html)   (http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr304/orduck10/IMG_0724_zpsphukhs2y.jpg) (http://s494.photobucket.com/user/orduck10/media/IMG_0724_zpsphukhs2y.jpg.html)   (http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr304/orduck10/IMG_0708_zpsldoydrjp.jpg) (http://s494.photobucket.com/user/orduck10/media/IMG_0708_zpsldoydrjp.jpg.html)
