Now trying to figure out how to haul it in my Toyota Tacoma with a toolbox in the bed.
Mine likely will. An old aluminum boat that belonged to my late grandfather. He and my uncle camoed it up for duck hunting in the late 60's/70's. It's also the first canoe I ever rode in. Almost bought an Old Town not long before I was gifted this one. They are my absolute favorite paddle boats. Spent several summers in Vanceboro Maine catching pickerel from it on a microlight & buzz baits from my father's Discovery 169.
Have one, but we have little water in which to use it!
There a neat story about this one I picked up from a young guy named Mike Saunders.
He put in at the headwaters of the Mississippi river in Minnesota and floated over 2200 miles to the Gulf of Mexico  :clapper:
If you would like to read his story you can Goggle "Lost with Mike" and read it and several other adventures he's taken, one crazy dude!
That would be an epic trip! I've thought about doing similar on the Red River here on the Oklahoma/Texas border to Texoma. Looks like if I pulled out at the dam there doesn't seem to be a dam to the Big Muddy. I've still got family near the dam that could help with portage.
Mine will involve canoe and kayak.
OT penobscot 16 for when daughter goes with me, then a Native Ultimmate 14.5 for solo trips.
J
No canoe but I'll be in my Cajun pirogue :)

I might paddle across a small lake to get to a mountain I want to hunt. My canoe is a home made (not by me) cedar strip canoe. And maybe spend a night there.
How long is that canoe?
I've never hunted with a boat before, but it's something is love to do. I think it's just the idea of hunting somewhere that isn't even accessible with a vehicle that makes it sound like fun.
I got me a water moccasin pirogue equipped with a trolling motor and a #500 weight limit. I look forward to taking that joker in some places. I'm hoping it works half as good as I think it will.
The only problem with it is transport. I have a SUV and that joker aint light.
John, If you ever make it up this way I have a bed extended you're welcome to use indefinitely. I don't have a truck at this time, so I know i wont be using it any time soon.
I bought a wenonah last year, I'll have it with me in the Adirondacks in 10 days. There is a lake I will fish on my way across to the area I want to hunt.
Basin boy that's awesome ..no canoes for me . Building myself a pirogue before duck season
I hope to get to some spots with my gheenoe .
No, but it sounds like fun!
Corey,
I was in fact planning to buy a pirogue either a Ron Chapman Copperhead or a Bayou pirogue. At the last minute I did another search on Craig's list and found this one.
It's a hybrid canoe/kayak 13' and 59#.
Daniel I'm looking for a bed extender now or someone to custom make me one.
I want to lay the bow on my toolbox and have the bed extender curve up to 31" and 3' back of the tailgate. This will allow me to use the bed with the tailgate closed.
The OldTown Next have a fantastic seat ,enjoy !

That will work fine, light weight too
And I reckon you know me and the 11'9" Old Town will accompany you on a number of kills this season. We gotta get a scout together tomorrow if you have time! Nice canoe Bro
For sure.. Old Town Pack weighs just 33#...

John, that Pack looks a lot like mine but is lighter . How long is it? I'm surprised they discontinued it. Very nice.
How odd. I could swear I've seen an orange-colored Old Town NEXT somewhere up here in NH.
Oh yeah – in my basement, with the seat newly removed, ready for moose hauling duty in October, while towed behind my partner and me paddling my Old Town Penobscot 17.
This is from the landing where we'll launch:

That Old Town pack sound like the ticket at 33#!
This is a little one I picked up a few years ago:

It's pretty light, I can carry it myself.

14 foot Myres sports pal canoe here...
Dang it. Now you guys have me looking at canoes. Even though I don't have any use for one where I currently hunt. Hoping for a chance to move to another state in the next year or two, so maybe I'll have the opportunity to hunt some places with water access.
I got a Guide 119 that will see some action I hope.RC
We will. But only because it's provided by the outfitter in Northern Ontario. :D
Ron,
Nice canoe pic's hope to get mine on the water next week once back from a business trip.
A short video from one of our last Frogging trip. We use Canoe and Kayaks to search out a new location.

I'll launch in a traditional, skin-on-frame hunting kayak.

That was my plan for this year, but I haven't been able to find a used one in my price range that I like...
Adam,
That a great looking canoe, is it a older style from the past?
How do you plan to haul gear or deer if sucessful?
I do my canoe is nothing to write home about. Old town build if for one of the big sporting goods stores some years back. Gonna use it to get to an otherwise inaccessible island on the Missouri River. Should be some dynamite deer hunting.
Jake
South MS Bowhunter, That's a skin-on-frame semi-replica of a South Greenland hunting kayak. Big game will be floated out on a short tow rope as was/is traditionally done with seal, walrus, narwhale, etc.
Adam, Can we see some more pics of that skin on frame yak?
I recently bought a Jackson Big Tuna and would love to get it out on a hunting trip. Just need to find a place suitable for that type of hunt. Also have an Old Town Penobscot 17 in royalex that will carry some weight but doesn't paddle real well solo.
Here is mine solo hunt archery only State reserve near my house.Water level was really low.

I have spent many miles in a canoe.
Good looking canoes everyone, hope to start making some memories in mine this year if the Lord should tarry!

I added a third seat to mine for that very reason. It works best with a double-bladed paddle, given the hull width at that point. I use a large water container for ballast in the forward end as needed. I removed the third seat the other day for the upcoming moose hunt.
(For those who don't know, this canoe has virtually symmetrical ends, so paddling it "backwards" works quite well.)

eidsvolling, That is a great idea. I assume you ordered the extra seat from Old Town? I would think with the extra seat mounted you could remove that thwart. I have considered selling mine and buying a 16' Penobscot as they don't have the extra thwart behind the front seat, but they're not royalex anymore. I love the Penobscot hull. Speed and secondary stability are excellent.

A good way to keepem cooled down too!

Actually the seat is produced by
Essex Industries (http://www.essexindustries.org/canoe-seats/?sort=alphaasc) in New York. (They may well be a supplier to Old Town.)
The thwart is substantially stronger as a brace than the seat, and personally I wouldn't remove it.
You're right about the hull. I bought it years ago with this place in mind, where I've seen any number of folks stuck on shore with their knees knocking while the wind blew:
Sag (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Saganaga+Lake/@48.2452976,-90.958792,13z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x52a6ee05fe76667d:0x985c429f949776bc!8m2!3d48.2505811!4d-90.9240522)
I hunt on both sides of a river and one piece I've never hunted in the past 5-6 years is land locked. Really though hard about getting my native ultimate 12 fx and goin across to hunt it this year
cool! are we going to hunt frogs from a flotilla next year?! should make for some awesome Bill Dance-style spills when Sniper bails out to grab a stuck frog, haha!
My other Old Town.. 50# Stillwater. Holds two and can haul up to 900#..

Hey Johnny our LEADER just refinished his Chimera so in an effort not to scratch his lower limb he'll have to stand in the new canoe to shoot
