Title: Ben Pearson Spoiler clone?
Post by: Smeans on September 03, 2016, 06:36:00 PM
I have an old Ben Pearson Spoiler recurve that I love; it is a 52" bow with 40 pound draw. I love the way it handles, the light weight and pretty much everything about it.
The two draw backs are that the bottom limb is starting to develop some twist over the last 10 years or so and at my draw length the bow is only pulling around 37 pounds.

I really would like a clone at 45 pounds to get my draw weight up above 40.
From looking online the Bear Kodiak Magnum is the same 52" length; but the aggressive grip makes me leery and I didn't see a 45 pound version.
The next I found is the Bear Cheyenne, even though it is 55" it seems to have close to the same riser angle etc.

Can anyone give me a recommendation for a clone of the Spoiler?

That model comes up on the auction sight quite often. Should be able to find a 45# easy enough.

Another option on the used market would be the 52" version of the Red Wing Hunter from Wing archery.  Not extremely common, but I've seen several for sale over the last couple years.

And there's also the Sakespeare Super Necadah that's 54"

Oh, and I almost forgot.  Mike over at Mad Dog Archery builds a 54" recurve.  Haven't heard much about it specifically, but I've heard lots of good things about his bows in general.  Plus it's only be around $300 or so brand new.

Mike Ballinger at 7 Lakes makes a 54" 50s style recurve-Sawed Off.  Mine has a straight grip.

If you can't find another Spoiler, consider a Bear Black Panther. Close resemblance to the Spoiler. There's one on fleabay right now. 45/55 in weight.

Another option would be to have the bow  rebuilt with new limbs and a complete refinish
