I dont contrubute much...but you guys are seriously awesome. Ive learned so much on here over the past 5-6 years...
So I just came upon a nice 58" fox breed from a wonderful gentleman. It looks awesome, shoots hard and quiet (as far as I can tell by shooting at 2 yds in my apartment...don't tell my landlord). Its 64# a 29", I'm drawing 27-ish.
The string that's on it has most certainly seen better days. Reading the fox website, it suggests that bows after 2001 are fast flight compatible.
Is there a way to tell by looking at the bow if its compatible? And do you think a 55" string would be about right? (I'll measure the current string in a bit).
I honestly hadn't planned on hunting with a trad bow this year due to being relocated to a big city and having some shoulder issues.
But wouldn't you know it...I got drawn on the MCAAP hunt and my shoulder, although slightly painful, has built up its strength pretty well. And I decided that I should get a short recurve for hunting on the ground. Short enough to sit on the ground and shoot.... So I bought a 51# browning cobra...and a 48# Kodiak mag...and a 45# Kodiak mag... And while I was at it I figured I should go ahead and get myself a takedown bow for a future elk hunt (fox breed)..and that all compliments my spirit longbow and palmer recurve. So there's gonna be a serious tryout upcoming after I get these things tuned and find arrows for them.
It may be time for a bow rack!!!

You have a nice start on your collection .
That bow tip picture looks like it could handle FF string with no problem .
I think a 55 inch string is pretty close.But it might take a 54 inch string.I would not go over 55".You don't want too many twists in your string.Alot of recurves take a string that is 4 inches shorter than bow length.But some don't.
I got a 62 inch 2 PC. T.D Breed.Definatly one of my favorite all time bows.I think you will like that bow and if its a 2 PC I think you did very well.I love the 2 PC for the extra weight in the handle with the steel/brass hardware
I cant tell if your bow is FF compatable.But I see it has high strength tip overlays and belly overlays at the tips as well.Also the clear glass looks pretty beefy on the belly side at the tips.Looks solid state to me.
I dont think I would worry about it too much personally.I would try a quality string from SBD or 10 Rings with built up loops.I don't think you would have any problems.
You could call the Bowyer with the serial # and he could let you know if its pre 2001.
It seems like a quick and powerful bow. No doubt a SBD string would turn it into a flame thrower. I just put one on my spirit and my wood arrows are now weak.
I don't see a serial number. And since its second hand I don't know of its proper etiquette to bother a bowyer since I didn't get it from him.
My engineers intuition says that the tips are phenolic, which should be good to go. The fellow I purchased it from said he had it for 10 years or so. That should put it after the 2001 date. But I want to be 100% sure so I don't ruin the bow.
I see no problem contacting the Bowyer to inquire. I've done that plenty of times on my second hand bows.
I'd say your bow is good to go for FF.
Ron King is a super guy, he'll be happy to help answer questions about your bow.
Most of his bows have a month and year on the belly side of top limb.
Contact Ron King, he can tell you when he built the bow and can make you a new string for it.
Congrats on the Breed, I own one also and they are terrific bows.

Bring it out to the IBA sometime and we'll shoot a few rounds.
Not going to get involved in the FF/non-FF part of the discussion, but if you have the desired brace height on it now, measure the current string and you will have the right length.
