I friend of mine has a old Bear Grizzly that I want. He wants $100 for it, but I need more info to justify the purchase. He let me bring it hoe for a week to play with. I cleaned it up a bit with Kit scratch off and denatured alcohol. It was covered with years of grime, and had an old flipper rest on it. I added some velcro to the self for testing. Its green and grey with a vertical split in the riser. The limbs are brown in color and its a Grayling bow. It also has the raised medallion. Its in VERY nice shape for its age, with a few expected handling marks. I dont know the Brace height, but I strung her up and let a few arrows loose, and my god this thing draws SSSSSSOOOOOOOOOO smooth. The draw feels smoother than my RER Arroyo! The markings are as follows: AMO-58", 55x# The serial number is KR48838
Can anyone help me out with the correct brace height so I can test the max potential of this bow?

I'm no Bear expert, but that looks like a mid '70's to me. Worth $150 all day long. Nice looking bow.
Looks like a later bow from Florida to me, but I have been wrong once before. It also appears to be braced about right. 'Bout 8, 81/2" or so. I don't think you could go wrong buying it. It looks like it is in fine shape.
Killdeer
If it's solid, $100 is a decent deal. Take it before he comes to his senses or visits the auction site for pricing. lol
Give him the $100 I would start at 8" then go from there..
Buy it! $100 is excellent for a Grizzly. Most of them like 8 to 8-1/2, so I agree with Matty, start at 8" and go up or down from there until you are the quietest and most accurate.
I think the K series is from Florida, but that doesn't mean it's a bad deal. As you can tell from shooting it, they are good bows. My old Black Bear still outshoots anything else I own. It will be in the woods with me this fall!
Looks like a 56# mid 70's Grayling good deal for $100.
The silkscreen will tell if it's Grayling or Gainesville
$100 is a steal.
I have two bears from around 1970.
1 is 7.5 brace and 3/8 nock and the other is
8.0 brace and 3/8 nock.
its a pretty good deal @ a 100 bucks. look at the sticker on the bottom limb and tell us where it was made.
Thanks for all the replys. I spent a little time shooting her today, and the brace must be about right at 8 3/8. I was grouping REAL well at 17 yards, and there was only little buzz on the bare string. I may throw some cat wiskers on it, or have a flemesh string made for it. So far Im pleased with it, so I may jump for the $100 tag. I'll give it a week and see what comes up.
BTW the bottom limb says Grayling!
A buddy of mine has one like yours and he bought it new in '72, so it is a Grayling bow. You got a deal there-jump on it!
Okay I'm going to date myself here but, that is the exact same bow as my first "real" bow. I got mine new in 1974 and lost it somewhere between then and now. Thanks for the memories!

Yep, just like others have already said. It's an early 70's grizzly. I have one just like it on my bow rack. LH 50#'s @28" Brace is set right at 8" and shoots like a dream. Well worth the $100.
ENJOY
Zmonster-If you don't pay that guy immediately $100.00 for that thing, then you are not heeding very good advice from these folks. :knothead: I would pay the guy YESTERDAY! You can NOT lose by buying this bow. It will easily fetch your investment, and much likely a decent bit more due to the 55X# weight.
Don't wait as your last post suggested you were doing. Pony up the cash before the guy realizes he can get more coin for it.
Did I mention that you should BUY IT? LIKE.....NOW. :banghead:
