Title: Bear take down
Post by: Petrichor on August 24, 2016, 07:45:00 AM
Quick question been thinking about picking up a bear take down. Will the old mag risers take brand new limbs?

Yes, but It would try to make sure. My 55# limbs worked fine but I bought new 45# limbs a few years later and had issues. A common fix is to remove the limb index screw which also has a tendency to make noise.

I question that .
I have a B handle that I bought new in 2012 and the archery shop had some older limbs that they offered to me for about half price .
We tried to install them in my riser and they weren't even close to being able to go in the pockets .
So I would say that the new ( sense they started making them again ) won't work with the original design .

I have a B Mag and Green stripe B and 2016 limbs and they fit fine in both risers.

My Grayling limbs work fine on my 2012 Red Stripe and 2015 two tone risers.

I have both old and new risers AND old and new limbs...AND they all will interchange.

I have both old and new limbs and a new wood riser and an old mag riser. What I have will not interchange. The holes on the limbs to accept the screw heads on the risers did not natch up exactly and prevented them from interchanging. They are supposed to interchange, but not all will.

Hence the reason I took out the alignment screws on my Mag riser.

The tolerances are very close.  As has been pointed out, taking out the alignment pin will enable any limb to fit.  Or, if you know what you're doing, can also just lightly sand the butt end of the limb, very lightly, and keep it square.

I've owned a few, old and new.  Also Bear limbs and Rose Oak.  I've found the tolerances vary.  I have yet though, found a riser or limb that wouldn't fit. A couple have been pretty tight to close the latches though.
