John and I fly out to Anchorage on the 12th to start this year's moose adventure. Last December first the day we committed to the air taxi service, John pointed out a new rule on their website. It seems that hunters weighing 280+ no longer got the 50 pound allotment for gear and had to pay for a gear load to bring their stuff. I stepped on the scale and it said 296. Crap!! time to get serious.
Bought a fitbit and subscribed to MyFitnessPal. Went to work. Two a day workouts and tracking every calorie. Yesterday morning I stepped on the scale at 241.4 pounds. My goal has been 240 before the hunt so I think I'll make it.
Going to be nice to put the 50# pack of meat on my back and know that I still weigh less then I did in December.
Now to get all these bows built and out of here before I leave.
Mike
Heck, just keep losing weight Mike and see where it goes.
Have a great time and kill a big one. I'll be looking forward to the hunt story.
Heck.... you will probably run down and tackle the moose now ! Congrat's on your weight loss. Go have some fun. Be sure to take pix either way and tell a great story on your return. Many of us will never hunt Alaska so we live vicariously thru stories of hunts like yours.
ChuckC
I look forward to you guys adventure every year...congratulations on the weight loss.
That's the plan Charlie. As soon as I get back from the hunt back on the program. Looking for 220 or less by next summer.
Mike
Nice to hear that. I've been watching the weather up there and have noticed a few cool mornings in the 40F range. I'm sure some frost has been occurring in the hills. Heck last year I rode out an overnight snow in late August, though I was at 4k' elevation. This morning I'm seeing temps in the low 50s up there. Remarkably I had 53 here at my house this morning.
Good luck Mike.
Kevin with the late season we are hunting this year I'm sure we will see colder temps then previously.
Flying in on the 15th and out on the 28th.
Mike

Boy...you got to be feeling great and light on your feet. Keep it up(weight down)! Going to be some super stories & pics when y'all get back. Good luck!!!!
One of our goals this year is to get a video of the shot. Going to take some serious planning to make it happen.
Mike
Best of luck......have fun.
Dang, that's dedication my friend. Good luck on yall's hunt!!!
:archer2:
Congratulations on the weight loss. I have never done it Although I could stand to loose 30-40 lbs myself.
Safe travels
Got all 15 dinners prepared and dehydrated. Going to be making the energy bars over the next few days. It's coming together and time is flying by.
Mike
Congrats on the weight loss Mike! That's a battle I'm trying to fight a bit myself right now.
Good luck on the hunt; I hope to see some pics and a cool story soon!
SWEET on the weight loss! you can do it - anyone can do it just discipline to stick to it! lol
Gone from 208 to 175 and beat type II diabetes diagnosis. Crossfit and diet - great stuff.
Wish you alot of luck on the hunt!
Dang Mike, if you keep losing weight it'll be difficult to see you across the tent at Denton Hill. Sounds like you have already lost more weight then you probably every had to lose while wrestling in college. Good luck to you and John on your hunt. Here's looking forward to seeing some great pictures.
:clapper: :clapper:
Nope never had to cut over 50# for sure. I think 14 was the biggest I ever did for a wrestling tourney. Being a 190 pounder had it's advantages.
LOL
Mike
May you and John enjoy a safe and most memorable experience as well as a double harvest.
I love to see anyone doin something for fitness! Be proud and don't stop when the hunt is over!!!
Can't wait to hear the story Mike
Good luck on your Moose hunt and weight loss! It wouldn't hurt me to lose a few before deer season!
Hitting about 10 miles a day now for this week and then tapering off next week to recover and avoid injury.
Under two weeks to go.
Mike
Leaves are turning here. Looking like fall.
Congrats on the personal accomplishment! Good luck to you guys!!!!!
Hey Mike - When will you be in Tok? I assume, correct me if I am wrong, your flying out of here the 15th up into the Yukon drainage by the dates of your hunt?? I'll probably be up at my cabin when you come up but if I'm around I'll give you a shout. The 28th is too far out for me to know yet where I'll be.
The weather here has begun its cooling down with morning temps around 30 above and daytime temps at around 65 above. We've had a WET summer but the rain has appeared to stop and I hope it stays that way.
Good job on the weight loss.
=John
Good luck boys and be safe ..... :campfire: :campfire:
Anticipation of the release of the primal instinct is running high.
Mike,
Congrats on the weight loss....everything will feel so much better. I when from 240 to 190 2 years ago. Now hover between 190-195. It's a great feeling donating all those big pants to Goodwill :) Looking forward to stories of your hunt with John.
 Congrats on your weight loss resolve best wishes on a big bull kill.
John,
Yep flying out on the 15th and will be in Tok on the 14th at Fast Eddies.
I have a bunch of new and near new camo in XXL sizes that I'll need to clear out soon. Already
got rid of the other stuff that was huge.
Mike
Nice job on the weight Mike, I've lost almost 25 lbs since May myself for my Colorado hunt in a couple weeks. Feels great, walking and working out seems so much easier and freer. My goal was to break 200 and get to 199 (mental thing) It's going to be close.
Good luck in Alaska!
Now 7 days to go. Hit 239 pounds on Sunday so I made my objective with a week to spare. Now to get all these bows wrapped up and pack my stuff.
Mike
Nice Mike. Good luck on the hunt, can't wait to hear the stories.
David
Good luck, Mike! I hope you whack a bigun!
Bisch
Best of luck and looking forward to the stories and pics!
