I am in the market for a recurve(love the looks of them and the craftsmanship) and want one that I can learn proper form on and not be over bowed. But what is the minimum poundage for IL for hunting. I would like to be able to hunt with it next year after I practice all summer. Gonna stick with the 70# compound for this year cuz i wont get enough practice. Thanks
Dom
40# for IL I beleave.
45 in kansas
In ILLinois it must be 40# at some point within 28". A bow that is 43# at 30" would be illegal. Hap
Hap is right, but I bet if it says 43#@30" on the bow, the DNR wouldn't think twice about it and let you go.
35#@Your draw in Jersey ( Long bows & recurves )
If you are used to shooting a 70# compound, than 50#s would be a good starting point. I say that as you should be able to learn good form and your draw may vary by and inch or so either way until ya get set on a style and anchor point. It is tough to get a 45# at 28" bow and find you drwa 27" and have a 42# bow. Th e50# gives ya some leeway and will shoot thru anything ya would hunt in Illinois. Shawn
Hot Hap has it right, Dom. Look for something around 45-50 lb at your draw. It will be easy to shoot and have plenty of oomph for hunting.
Where are you located in IL? There should be one of us nearby who can help you out. Welcome to the Gang! :campfire:
