Leaving 6:30 am tommorrow for Chama NM for a five day Elk and Muley hunt, bow during rifle season, suits me just fine, then to Kansas for pheasants for two days ..But all I can think about is, that this forces me to lay off the bruiser I have been hunting in the National Forest..He ain't gonna miss me but maybe his game will ease up and I can sneak back in right in the middle of peak rut when I return. Isn't that sad,, I can't get this fair chase, public land buck outa my head even though I am leaving for Elk and Muleys?? Just love doing it all fair chase on my own with my Morrison,, thats where the spirit thrives :campfire: :archer: .. Yall take care now ya hear...
Good luck with wapiti, I hope that you being a flatlander have gotten in shape. Don't ask for grits in the cafes.
Those hills can't be any tougher than chasing a hog through the swamps of the Santee Delta..Or wading after a crippled marsh hen...but the altitude and lack of O2 and salt water is liable to do me in..
Have a great hunt I was close to there about 5 weeks ago ,
9000 ft camp hiked to about 10,000
makes your lungs think.
Red Chili Fudge at the candy shop in Chama across from the railroad. WOW!
That's a pretty good predicament! Hope you get to hear a few late bugles - the true magic of the Rockies! Enjoy Chama, beautiful country. Have hunted twice right across Cumbres Pass into So. Colorado. I miss it, doubt my knees do, though! Good luck.
By the way, when you get to NM, they will ask in the restaurants if you want red or green. Contrary to what you might think, green is the HOTTEST.
