Been thinking about some more aggressive static limbs for a while now and this is my first iteration. Lots of preload with some aggressive hooks. Also, my risers are pretty small compared to most takedowns, 11" and 13", 1.5" wide at the limb pads so they tend to be fairly light in mass weight. Decided to try some G10. This one is all G10 and the 11" riser weighs in at just over 1.5#, about .5# heavier than an 11" Bocote riser with .75" of linen phenolic I just compared it to. Tweaked the deflex and riser design just a tad too. The added mass is really nice. Really happy with the performance gains in the limbs too.
I'll try to post some unstrung and strung pics later.

very nice!

Very beautiful. But I like the smoke longbow more. Do you still make them?

Alluring advancements...
A TimberGhost is to again be my devoted, reliable and faithful partner this season.
Fine work Ken....

A few more pics, strung and unstrung. Hope to try it out on a Arkansas black bear in a few weeks. Got permission to hunt some new property this year, start baiting in 3 weeks and opening day is 9/24, can't wait.

I thought you weren't taking orders. Are you being a big tease again? Lol
-
I'll bet that thing is a bugger to string, very nice

Very nice!

Way cool.

Kent, beautiful bow and that limb profile looks pretty sweet

Nice

very nice :)
-
Wow! Your bows always get me drooling. Bet that's a SOB to string though.
-
Thanks for all the compliments everybody!
Sorry Biathlonman, guess since I'm not really taking any custom orders for now, I am a bit of a tease. Just wanted to get some thoughts from the Gang on the new design.
Don't be surprised if you see a stock bow now and then as I have time.
It may look hard to string but it's not at all. The limbs are very torsionally stable. I use a standard Selway stringer with the deep cup on the bottom and rubber pad on top and it's just as easy as any other recurve.

Very nice!

I'm really not a fan of rear mount limb systems. They just look ugly to me. (Sorry Black Widow fans) But this one with that small riser actually looks pretty good to me. The aggressive static tips look pretty cool too. I'm actually also a one piece guy specifically because I don't like the mass weight of 3 piece bows, so your wood riser bows might be just right. So that's two bow "styles" that I don't normally like that I think could work for me on this one. I'd say definitely build more like it.

Hi Kent,
just for your information. I have tried to send you a PM and get the information that your can not receive any message your PM account is full. So you should delete some.... :wavey: :wavey:

Outstanding as usual Kent.

WOW!! If you ever do a pass around, I'd sure be interested in trying out that beauty! Thanks for the tease.
-
Very impressive!
-
The riser is shaped alot different from your other bows. Does this have anything to do with the material?
-
Wow those limbs must be a challenge to build. I would love to see your limb form just for fun and a draw force curve to see how the statics behave. Glad to see that you are still tinkering while on hiatus from custom bow building!
-
The different riser shape really doesn't have anything to do with the G10, just a few changes I've been evolving. Less deflect for one for a longer power stroke, longer shelf to give a little more protection from fletching contact on the hand, shelf is still right on top of the hand just an extended shelf. And then the ends of the riser have a bit different shape/angle. Been making a few minor mods but I think this one is pretty well what I want.
I'll post some pics of my forms. May still make some minor changes to the limbs. They're not hard to build as long as you use the right material to stabilize them torsionally which I plan to change up a little to be able to extend the recurve while retaining sufficient stability.

The GrayGhost is no match for the TimberGhost.
Oh, how I long for a TimberGhost...
-
Very nice!

Have only experienced stringing challenges on a most agreessive static tip that was 60"s...62@28.
My statics which run from 56 to 62"s and from 42 to 54#s string quite easily.
Developing an improved technique for stringing heavier draw weights would be required of myself. personally

Kent,
VERY COOL Static Tip !!! GOOD LUCK with the BEARS.
-
very cool! can I ask where you purchased the G10? I would love to build a riser from it as well.
Thanks for any information you would be willing to share!!!
