Cant wait til October 1st, that would be the first day of archery season for deer in Virginia. I started back with trad gear bout three years ago, this will be my first year year actually hunting with my longbow. My shooting has greatly improved and now have the confidence to hunt with trad gear. I have always worried about crippling deer so I always went back to my compound. I have been bowhunting since I was around twelve years old and I always shoot like I hunt, I never shoot deer over 20 yards matter of fact I have killed most at ten yards or less. I'm going to order my broadheads today and get them ready, I'm leaning towards Simmons. I have already hung two stands on sparse oaks that I could see acorns on the limbs. I'm just eat up with my longbow and shoot almost every day. I am so thankful for finding this site, there are such great people on this site and I thank each and everyone of yall God bless all of you. The Trad Family is awesome!!!!
Good luck to you!

Me either already gearing up.
Ours season begins Sept 3rd, got five stands set, a few cameras, and shooting most days now, I'm fired up!
My grandchildren and I are putting out cameras today. Just got back from ETAR and am shooting everyday.
Anxious!
Best of luck and stay safe.
17 days and counting! I can't wait for August 20th to be chasing deer and elk.
Good luck everyone.
Fall can't come to N Louisiana soon enough for me. It's 97 right now with a heat index of 107. It's hard to even get out and practice much when it's like this.

Matt
Good luck Floyd.
Certainly am hopeful that besides fully absorbing the illuminating experience of the outdoors, perhaps a special harvest is imminent.
All the best....
13 days to go to opener, fall is near, only hit 91 degrees today.
Good luck Floyd and the rest of you guys! Our Archery season opens on Sept. 17 here in Wisconsin. :archer2:
I'm right there with ya Floyd! Same deal too except I have yet to revert back to training wheels :biglaugh:
This is my third year with trad gear, got my first trad deer last year with my Redstag longbow. This year is going to be a little different. I'm going in the woods with a bow I made...a self-bow: 65# eastern woodland style.
Would like to try out primitive points but I have yet to learn the art and have no local sources of 'knappables' and just can't picture spending any more than $15 each on one online, so I'm going with my steel broad-heads.
Good luck this fall for you! Keep us posted on your success in the Virginia section!
Man you guys got me pumped up!! I still have some prep just shy of two months to go, but I see ferns turning orange already late summer burn baby
Good luck to ya! Elk season starts here in Montana next month and I'm looking forward to it
I'm feeling the excitement too! Best of luck on your first year! My advise would be to not be selective and have fun.
I was just thinking today how much of my life I have wished away awaiting October. Then when it arrives I long for the rut. Glad I'm not the only one messed up in the head.
5 weeks from tomorrow Were heading to Wyoming
Best of luck to all! I'm pretty much set, have one stand I need to move but other than that I'm ready. Going to get after some squirrels in about a month. This has to be the year for my first trad kill, the freezer is running a tad low
Nothing like climbing into treestand bout an hour before daylight and waiting for daybreak and listening to the woods come to life with all the sounds and smells of what the good Lord has created for us to enjoy. Nothing like bowhunting, any whitetail that walks within my bow range is a trophy especially with trad gear. The land I hunt is so pressured with dog hunting that getting a chance at a trophy buck is slim and none.
Good luck!! Still a couple months before it opens here. I'm jealous of all you guys that will be hunting in a few weeks!!
