This is my first attempt at making wood arrows. My son Mason was needing a few more arrows so I thought I'd try. First, I need to give a special thank you to Surewood shafts - they actually donated these 5/16 shafts when I inquired about them. Awesome people!!!!
Here's my man shooting his Maddog Pup.

Mason is in Pennsylvania visited his grandparents for a couple of weeks. So I figured I'd surprise him and make 6 of the shafts while he's gone. He's going to make the other 6 - I'll post a thread with lots of process pics when he does that.
I think they turned out pretty good overall - I wanted the front darker and used a chestnut stain but once I put the poly on it darkened up the unstained end to nearly the same color... lesson learned - used a much darker stain if you want contrast.
What do you think? Here's a pic without the flash, and one with flash.

I've built 1000's of carbons and aluminums (I worked at a compound dealer all through college), just never messed with a wood shaft before. I really enjoyed it. There is definitely a different level of satisfaction.
I did the cresting with my drill and a sharpie. Need to figure out a better way to do that and get more precise, but other than that I was very happy with them.
Awesome work! Son looks very pleased with a bow in his hands!
1) you do great work
2) your son is gonna be thrilled!
