How often do you guys keep your bows strung? Do you unstring after shooting? Just curious to see what y'all do.
Kyle
I always unstring my bows after shooting. Really don't see any reason not to.
I always unstring my bows. I'm told ya don't have to with glass bows, but with wood bows ya need too.
I usually have 3-4 of my favorites strung ALL the time. I only have 2 non-glass bows and they stay un-strung until time to play.
I leave my favorite bows strung . I've had a bowier tell me that it's better for the bow to leave it strung .
Only unstring if it's not going to be shot for a very long time .
But I wouldn't leave a self bow strung up .
I unstring all bows every time I finish shooting, with no exceptions.
I would worry about a string breaking and possibly damaging a bow if left strung all the time. Would be my luck..
And yet them compounders sit there strung up year after year.
I seldom unstring any of my bows unless there not being shot at all.
You're asking the wrong people. Ask the bowyer who made it. Ive had some that said it didn't matter leaving it strung and was more risky stringing and unstringing since he felt most miss haps happen then....and other bowyers say flat out unstring them as soon as you are done. Only the bowyer knows what his bows act like and how he wishes you to handle it.

What Sam said.
I unstring my bows unless I am going back out in a few min. I use a stringer which is very easy to use. I do not see how you can have a problem learning to use a stringer.
I always unstring when I am not shooting, and I always use a stringer if I am stringing/unstringing a recurve.

I leave my recurve strung and unstring my longbow. If i was not shooting it a couple times a week I would unstring it, if you dont have a stringer for your recurve leave it strung.. my 2 cents
Bak, when I had a compound, twice the string broke while it was hanging on the bow rack. That was with the weight backed way down.
It only takes 15 seconds to unstring a bow, so that's the route I take. But I know guys who never unstring their bows, and never had a problem. Personal choice I suppose.
I usually leave 3-5 strung all the time but have changed that lately with the temp in my garage exceeding 100 degrees, none strung at this time.
My longbows rest when I rest.
The bows that are shot frequently (every day or every couple days) are left strung. I always use a stringer.
I see no need to unstring a laminated bow

I have a Jim Johnson Legend longbow that has been mostly strung since I received it in April 1996 with the exception of when I have traveled with it or changed strings. I just came in from shooting it as I type this.
The recurves that I shoot frequently, maybe 5 or 6, stay strung hanging horizontal in my basement. Some have been strung for years. My longbows usually get unstrung, mainly because they so quick and easy to push-pull. These are all glass laminates by the way.
I unstring all my bows each and every time I'm through shooting. With a good stringer like the Selway it takes all of 10 seconds...why not?
Besides, nobody ever dry-fired an unstrung bow.
Other than selfbows, mine stay strung. They are stored out of reach of kids, animals, and strangers.
I was told by my bowyer to unstring my bows. So I do what the man says.
