Title: few pics from E.T.A.R.
Post by: thump on July 30, 2016, 08:22:00 PM
Just got home, left today shortly after the rain started. had a great time and met some nice people.
on Thursday and Friday the courses weren't that full on the top of the hill, and I actuality ran the Canadian course to keep in shape for an up coming Spartan race.

I left before the rain.  Had to pull out this morning pretty early.  They sure do need the rain badly there.  Some wells have gone dry due to drought and communities are having to institute water conservation measures. Not good timing for the shooters but desperately needed by the folks there.

After shooting a few courses I didn't mind the rain seeing that it was needed. Had a great time spent a ton of money

Had a good time, but WOW what a rain we had. Only got to shoot 2 courses and the rain pounded us. I did get to try out a pile of bows though. Glad I didn't take a whole lot of money with me. I'd have been in the dog house for Quite a while! I would say most of the vendors in the big tents did well. The only dry place there was the vendor tents and people were on 2 foot centers. Big Jims tent was a  mad house. It's good to see them get the extra business. Might have been that little extra that will keep em coming back next year.

After the long hot spell in the East the rain on Sat felt pretty good until the lightning started and the clouds really opened up. It felt good to me! More dogs at this event than some  AKC dog shows.  All well behaved, on leash and having a good time.  A large majority of attendees were shooting reflex/deflex bows.  Recurves were also well represented. I was shooting my Schulz Trophy Hunter and was surprised at the few Hill style bows I saw.  Great shoot, well organized and well attended.

Airdale, we were there Friday with our oversized Yellow Lab.  He has separation anxiety and our dog sitter was unavailable all weekend.  We knew he wouldn't be a problem, he was loaded up on Prozac.   :bigsmyl:

Elkhunter-27, I think I saw your Yellow Lab, big boy and like I said the dogs were all well behaved. I put my buddy in the kennel, at 16 years it would be too much for him.  Sure missed the mutt. He is home now, full stomach, on the couch with his feet in the air.  Happy dog.

Rolled in early Sunday morning spending the week there relaxing. Shot 11 courses and came home worn out. Already thinking about next year. Always a great time. Only negative was on Nine Mile. Backed up with folks as far as you could see. Only two in our group shooting single arrows. Group of two men and three kids just passing through .. Ha! Ha! Just jumping in front of people shooting and then we wait for them.

The rain couldn't put a damper on this event. It has become our "Family Tradition"

I left on Sunday around noon after shooting Nine Mile one last time. Had a really great time. Rain badly needed in that area and it didn't put that much of a "damper" on things. Went out after it stopped and did the Iron Man for the first time. That is a nice course. I do have to rant a bit though. As was common, there were backups most of the time. If that bothers you, then find another hobby. I have no problem with following a large group as I have done the same at other shoots in the past. But I am a huge proponent of the "one arrow per target" rule, especially when there is a group behind waiting to shoot. Unfortunately, one group in front of mine was taking two and sometimes three shots per target, even when they hit with the first. There were about six in the group. I finally lost it and approached them, and, with all due respect, voiced my displeasure with their multiple arrow shooting. They rationalized it by saying they would just have to wait behind the group in front of them anyway even if they had taken only one shot. I didn't get in to any kind of confrontation and just walked back to my group. I had  made my point.
Along with the rant, a suggestion to speed up play. And here it is. After everyone in the group has shot his/her arrow, perhaps the group should move on to the next target stake and await the arrow retrievers to bring all the arrows to that point and then dispense them to their owners instead of staying at the previous stake for returns, which does take time and keeps the oncoming group from shooting just a tad sooner. Might not make a lot of difference over the entire course but it certainly can't hurt. And at the very least would demonstrate concern for those behind. Would be interested in comments, pro or con.

Sounds like it was a great time!  I would love to shoot the iron course, I really love challenges like that-it gets my adrenaline going.
