Title: Has anyone heard of a shakespeare ocala
Post by: savagelh on July 20, 2016, 10:19:00 PM
I have a line on a local bow. It's 50# at 28". I haven't seen it yet but it comes with some sort of a strap on quiver. Does anybody have any experience with this bow?the guy only wants $80 so I think I will buy it even if it's just a wall hanger.

The Ocala was made in the late 60's to early 70's and were really nice bows.  Fortunately, the prices for these are still reasonable and I expect you will like it lots.  However, $80 is a bit much for a wall hanger since shooters like this can be found for about the same price.

My friend gave me his and it seems to be a nice bow. Because of other bows I don't take it off of the rack and shoot it. I was just honored he gave it to me rather than his son or grandsons. He has harvested deer with it in his younger days. If you buy it, just remember not to use a fast flight string on it.

They were well designed and good performing bows, maybe the fastest of the Shahespeare recurves. Some have  zebrawood i beam and sight window, some are 2 piece risers.

The earlier models were 62" and the later ones were 60" bows. I had one in '67 that was the earlier models and they are FINE bows. These were designed by Ernie Root and will perform right up there with current bows. The Ocala and the Kaibab were the top of the line bows for Shakespeare. I have two '67 model Kaibabs right now. If you don't want it, please send me some pics. Thanks.

The Ocala was around for awhile. Nice bow. Might have been replaced in the 70's with the Neceedah, then the Super Neceedah. Shakespeare made some fine bows. My dad shot a Wonderbow for many years.

Got the bow today. Nice looking bow. It's an ocala x-14a. #50-62". The string that's on it is much too short as the bh is over 9". I'm going to see what I have around here for donor strings and try it out.

I've always thought that I would buy one some day.  I live near Ocala, Florida and think it would be cool to have one.  I've shot one or two and they were nice bows.

If you think the Ocala is nice, the Kaibab is "quote" to die for............

So I've been shooting the bow with the string that came on my GM2. I seem to shoot it quite well and the factory sights are a great form check tool. If it wasn't so noisy I would consider hunting with it

Good shooting bow, as are most of the Shakespeare's.  The only on I didn't shoot well was the 50" Cascade.
