Not me but my old pal Blacke. My buddy made it 14 years before he ran a skunk but he managed to get acquainted with on last night. Thought about the Tomato juice bath than checked the computer. Seems the most popular method today is to mix 1 quart 3% solution Hydrogen Peroxide, quarter cup baking soda and tablespoon liquid soap. Hose the dog down, rub in the mixture and rinse the dog off. It worked pretty well, hard to get the face real good and not get the peroxide in the dogs eyes. The peroxide will not harm the dog or make a bleached blond out of him. I hope he learned his lesson...
That's the best solution I have used..even on long haired dogs.
Tough odor especially with the recent humidity.
Same experience here - grew up with Beagles...I think it was their life's mission to get sprayed at least once every summer.
The Peroxide mixture worked better. To be honest I thought the combination of tomato and skunk left on them smelled worse than just skunk. It usually takes 2 treatments even with the peroxide though.
Same as Jonathan, here - 2 treatments of the peroxide mixture on my labs. If one gets it, almost certain they both do. Partners in crime.
:scared:
Oh, Brian, that really stinks! Give him a second wash if ya have to. or if he'll let ya!
LOL, I sell skunk skins to taxidermists and always give them the treatment whether or not I can smell anything. After handling the stinkers all season the smell has to be pretty strong to be noticeable to me.....................not so much for my wife!
I don't know what kind of natural water you have around you but I like to do the first couple baths of that recipe I. The lake or river. I use bio degradable eps approved detergent I'll I get home. Then it's Dawn. It will work. Good luck
Well, Blacke came through the bath pretty good. Just a hint of skunk or maybe I just got used to the smell. Yes he is a house dog. I sprinkled baking soda over the carpets, brushed it in good over his favorite spots then vacuumed. Seemed to work pretty good. I had all the windows open, the central air going to take advantage of the filter. Also kept the ceiling fans running. I think we are in pretty good shape. Brian.
Airdale, same happend to me last week. Both of my Great DANES went skunk hunting 1;30AM in the back yard, skunk 2pts. Danes 0. ..OE
I had and Irish Setter get blasted running one evening in the wooded hillside behind an apartment in San Francisco while I was stump shooting. Soap and tomato juice worked well. The next night she came prancing out of the woods with skunk in her jaws, she took her revenge on that one, and was proudly bringing it to me. Another trip to store for tomato juice.
I know the pain he is going through Brian all too well. I used to have a dog that was dumb enough to get hit a few times a year. he spent a lot of nights on the porch after each new incident.
I've had 3 different dogs get sprayed and it always happens right before you are going to go to bed! Lol! My poor wife had to go to Walmart at 12:30 one night for tomato juice.
Once my lab swam through a collection trough of cow pee. He didn't smell too good for a while. Fortunately he was younger and slept out in a kennel in cedar chips.
try Dawn liquid dishwashing soap
Then mixture of water and baking soda
Thanks for the reply JD. You should offer that skunk juice treatment on all your bows. sure stop people smell stopper. Those JD bows come with everything. Brian.
Had a Jack Russell that just wouldn't leave those skunks along. He was all white. Well one night years ago in the middle of the summer I let him out. Yes right before bedtime. And he gets skunked really bad. A neighbor comes over to help but brings tomatoe sauce vs tomato juice. Its now 1:30 am. It should work right. Well washing him good with a couple jars. Took out fair amount of the small BUT it turned his hair pink! It stunk to the high heavens for at least 6 month. Real bad when he got wet or when it was humid.
