In my quest to save Cobra Skins on one of my favorite bows (Matlock Predator}, I sacrificed another Matlock bow that had Canebrake Skins. Task impossible as the skins were epoxied on. The Canebrakes were real pretty but I needed to reduce the bow from 55#@28 to 40#@28. To do so involved taking glass off back & belly plus trapping the back, and re-tillering the bow. The skins were actually tuff to grind & scrape off. As I was working the bow, I remembered seeing a couple of Dean Torges bows where he partially skinned and faded them into the wood of the bow.
I kept the skins into the fades of the riser. With the Lams being Dirty Bamboo, I think the effect came out really cool. Let me know what y'all think...tippit

I think it looks great! Those Canebrakes literally disappear into that bamboo.
If you ask me, that was a great save on that bow!!!!

Wow never seen that approach before love it!
Looks good. The first thing I thought about was how a snake can kind of disappear into the background. Very nice,

Good evening Jeff,You are having too much fun with your collection of bows and getting the wgt. down that old farts can handle like myself.Keep at it with the number of bows you have it should take you another 10 years to go through them all.Kip
Looks great! Never thought about doing that.
I like it!
That looks really cool. If you wouldn't have told us we would have thought it was meant to be that way.

I like it!
When I saw Dean's Firestyxs with faded snake skins many years ago at Denton, I was in AW. In fact, Dean was the guy who taught me how to make selfbows...way before he wrote his books. I don't know why he took me under his wing that year at Denton but I'm indebted to him for it...tippit
Very nice Tippit!
That is really nice! It is cool to follow you on this journey to revamp your bows.
First I've seen and I like it.
You are a very skilled man. WOW
Thanks for all the kind words. Maybe it's in my genes, my dad was a fine woodcrafter of gun stocks, furniture and carver of decoys. Now my son has his onw blacksmithing shop doing fine metal work for homes and started crafting very nice knives. He's a much better blacksmith than I am. I think that family tote pole must have grease on it cause I seem to be sliding down.

I've been wanting to do the same thing for awhile now, got lots of small copperheads. Thanks Jeff, you may have just pushed me to go ahead and try some.
