Title: Morrison Hill Style Longbow...Looking for History
Post by: tippit on July 11, 2016, 06:27:00 PM
Since I can't hear and use the phone to call Bob Morrison, I looking for some help from Pow Wow. In my pile, I found an old Morrison Hill Style Longbow.  When I bought it years ago I had never seen a Hill Style longbow made by Bob.  Looking to find some history on these bows if he made many or this was just a hen's tooth.  It's 64" 55#@28 Osage riser & veneers with Bamboo lams and a very unique riser overlay.  I reduced it to 40#@28 and refinished it today.  It shoots like a dream...tippit

I know bob made them for a while.  Don't think he made too many though.

Thanks Jerry,
I'd just never seen one before.  His writing on the bow was ball point pen ink so I figured it had to be early.

After reading about your experiences in reducing bow weight, I think I may start looking for a 36-inch belt sander.  I have a few older, heavier bows that need some reductions as well. Suppose I could have at it with a sanding block, but a belt sander would sure be a lot quicker, and probably more accurate.

I can't believe the stuff your pulling out of your "PILE" of old bows........just neat stuff.

Orion,
You gotta be careful with a belt sander cause it will hog off a lot of glass or wood quickly.  My grinder has variable speeds, may different types of belts, and a lot of different grinding attachments.  Your grinds have to be even and you need to watch if the bow is getting out of tiller.

On the flip side, doing it all by hand is extremely slow and can set you up for tendonitis...ask me how I know   :)

That does not look like a HIll Style bow to me.  The first pic of the limb profile screams Deflex/Reflex.

Still a cool find.

I had one for awhile!  Picked it up used and had Bob reduce the weight for me.  Traded it, wish I still had it!   Basic bow that shot well.

two4hooking,
Guess  you're correct...but very different from Bob's 1 pc Dakota & Cougar.  I just never saw any of these from Bob.
