Hunting your own land will be great. I can help with baiting supplies I have a great source
I will remember that David. Thanks for the information.
By the way, the QFP plan should be in my hands in a week or two. It has to be submitted by 9/1. Looks like I will be getting bids for some timber harvest so I may need to pick your brain.
Shoot about 350# boar this fall!

Let me know on the timber. 350 plus is the plan on the bear
David, Congrats!! If you need an extra hand let me know I'm just west in Pentwater. I was unsuccesful for MI Bear and Elk this year, come on Iowa.

Thanks we should be all set. I will be hunting a 420 piece of private land. Trace hunted it last year. I will be using one of your game trackers for sure. Looking forward to testing it out.
Congrats on the tag. I live in the Baldwin unit and there are no shortage of bears that's for sure. Good luck.
My son and I applied for the area around Shrewhaven.....none for me, he hasn't checked yet.
Congratulations , I've thought about applying but haven't done it .
Just this last October I had one of my deer hunts busted by a big bruin .
He just sat about 50 yards from me and then I couldn't see it .
Didn't see a thing that evening and I usually see something .
Congratulations again and I hope you make it happen .
CONGRATS!! How many points did you have?? 13 for me and still unsuccessful.

You need to contact a DNR service center. Applicants with 13+ points were 100% this year(68 applicants). 11 of 138 applicants with 12 points drew a tag this year. My wife, with 12 points, did not draw. It appears, unless they raise the quota from 80 tags, that she's not 100% guaranteed for next year either.
That is one of my concerns. If guys that had 13 points didn't draw. What is it going to take when it's my turn ( I am sitting on 10 ). It will be like chasing my tail, when I have 13 you will need 16, when I have 16, I will need 19. I am thinking I would be better of hitting one of the Yoop areas.
There are probably a couple thousand guys just buying points. They can't be counted on what areas they might be waiting for.
If you are looking at the number of points on the lookup screen from the drawing that just happened, that's your points going into next year (2017). Here's a little chart to help show when you may get drawn-BASED ON POINTS YOU HAD GOING INTO THIS YEARS 2016 DRAWING and assuming there will be a constant 79 resident tags drawn for Baldwin unit (it's fluctuated from 65-80 total recently). The top line shows the number of applicants in each pool for 12 11 and 10 point (they don't show a breakdown of applicants with less than 10 points). By the year 2021, all the applicants who had 10 points going into last months drawing will have been drawn, based on the assumptions above. Hopefully that sheds some light on the above questions.
Applicants 138 117 145
Points 12 11 10
Hunt yr.2016 11 0 0
2017 79 0 0
2018 48 31 0
2019 - 79 0
2020 - 7 72
2021 - - 73
Well that didn't come out quite like how it looked on the screen when I typed it. Anyway, it takes roughly two years to get through each tier of points based on the number of applicants. So Burly, if you have 10 points after the drawing that just happened, you're probably not going to get drawn until 2022 or 2023. That's why I called my Baldwin tag back in 2008 a once in 30 year opportunity.
Holly cow, that's a bit of a wait. I think I am going to be putting in for Amasa or Baraga next year. Maybe do a deer/bear hunt. Thanks Ray.
Congrats! Good luck!!
My buddy and I draw 3rd season Baraga and were successful this year. Its a late season, not prime for baiting, but near 100% odds on the draw and we can have it tucked in our pockets through most of october deer bow season.
Dan
That's kinda what I am thinking, since I will be deer hunting in the Iron River area anyway.
