Title: My New Northern Mist Ramer
Post by: Roger Norris on June 19, 2016, 07:28:00 PM
Below are some pictures of my new Ramer, I just picked it up from Steve Friday at Compton. I shot it a bit on Friday, but I really didn't have a chance to mess with it until today. The Ramer is Steve's reverse handle (like my beloved Whisper) string follow longbow. Mine is 66 inches, 60 # at 28". I shot it for about an hour today, twisting and tweaking the string until I got what I believe to be the perfect brace height.

The reverse handle and string follow combine for a VERY forgiving, easy to shoot bow. It drew extremely smooth, hit where I looked, and sent a 625 grain arrow downrange with authority. I LOVE the reverse handle....but I already knew that. I am very surprised at how pleasant and smooth the string follow profile makes this bow.

I will shoot it a bit more tomorrow before I tie on a nock set. It is already "hunting quiet", but I will put something on the string to dampen what minute noise there is. I am loving this bow....my Whisper should be worried.    :bigsmyl:

This is my 3rd green glass bow from Steve.....pro-tip....if all of your bows have green glass, your wife has no idea when you bring in a new one. I call that "marital bliss camouflage"    ;)

Nice bow.......Love reverse handles, but I don't think that marital green camo will work in my house......lol. How does the string follow perform compared to your regular Whisper?? Just curious.........   :dunno:

Very nice! Steve can sure build a bow. I picked up my Classic at the Baltimore shoot in May.

Ron W.....When Steve gave it to me I asked about the performance difference. He stated that he thought this Ramer might be a touch slower than my Whisper (same poundage, same arrows). I'm not sure if it is. I have shot a few arrows side by side. The Ramer draws smoother, it feels "softer" if that makes sense. But I see no difference at hunting ranges of 20 yards or so.

I do feel the Ramer is more forgiving. I just came in from taking some random, unknown distance, relatively "quick" shots. As long as I managed my bow arm and hit a consistent release, I shot extremely well.

Roger; congratulations on your new bow. I was eyeballing it at the rendezvous. It looks really nice.

He also had a three piece takedown longbow on the rack. I couldn't resist; I had to take a few shots with it. It was absolutely stunning and shot even better.

Yes Roger, I am having the same experience with my Ramer. I had got away from my Whispers in favor of the sf limbs on the Shelton but now have both in one bow. No noticeable loss in performance and I don't think I will even bother with string silencers.

I found mine (66in 61@28) seemed to want to shoot best at a lower brace (6 1/2 - 6 5/8, 645gr arrows) than I could get with the string Steve originally had on it. Although I did switch to a B50 string. Where is yours tuning out?

The Ramer I have is a 3 lam bow, bamboo limbs. How is yours built?

Right now my Ramer is braced at 6 5/8......I am not sure if that will be the final sweet spot.

Looks like another top notch piece of work from Steve.  Love that green glass!!  It's hard to believe that Steve can improve on his designs, but somehow he does.  Happy shooting Roger, keep us posted on its performance.....(so does this mean you'll be shooting this bow at Elm Hall against Ron or will you be using your trusty Black Widow??)   :biglaugh:

There's a famous little diddy by Ron LaClair about Black Widow bows and G Fred Asbell and  Shrew Hollow. I wonder if it apply's to Northern Mist as well?

Down in Shrew Hollow by 'ole Armstrong Creek,
there sits a log cabin with wood floors the creak....   ;)    ;)    ;)

Man Roger. As a 3peat N.M. bow owner and shooter it's hard for me to imagine a bow that shoots smoother than my Whisper but I know Steve can perform magic. Sounds like quite a design and it sure is a beaut.

Roger has a Baraga, Whisper and Ramer in his stable, so he's got a trifecta too. I think my Shelton shoots smoother than the Whisper, but the Whisper 'points' easier based on my shooting the two side by side.
