Scenario: Didn't think I'd have time off this year to go, but have worked 7 days a week for the last three months and have accrued extra compensation days. Want to use them on an elk hunt this fall, but have never been so needless to say quite a bit behind the planning curve.
Question: Is anyone familiar with anyone who offers services to "plan" an OTC wilderness archery hunt. Planning portion be essentially laying out a GMU and multiple plans with regards of general areas to backpack into.
Given I'm an engineer and get too into details at time; the most daunting portion of this for me to not stay in perpetual churn is simply picking the GMU and general areas and backup plans to backpack into.
Other info; as of now have no partner as that appears to be hard to find but have no issues going at it alone. In great shape and self aware of my own limitations.
Respectfully request that we keep topic to question at hand versus discussions of guided hunts and outfitter based drop camps.
Thanks in advance for any help/direction anyone may be able to offer.
I know of a couple of services, but I've never used either so can't really tell you if they're good or not. I'd say just pick a decent OTC unit in CO, get a GOOD map ( I recommend gameplannermaps.com) and go. You have time to study up, ask questions, and aquire any gear you might need. Life is short, make it happen!
Good luck,
Ben
